underlined what an outstanding prospect he is by lowering the colours of an on-song Riviere d'Etel despite her generous allowances, signalling his intentions by taking on that rival from the off, their resulting duel helping him post a high-class performance on the stopwatch too - it's hard to see anything laying much of a glove on him at either the Dublin or Cheltenham Festivals on this evidence; made all, jumped accurately, travelled powerfully, driven late on the extended run-in but always holding on.

had her winning run ended but still emerged with plenty of credit up against a top-notch rival and will remain one to consider in similar company for the remainder of the campaign, even after her age allowance has reduced/disappeared; chased leader, typically jumped soundly, challenged home turn, stuck to task on extended run-in but always coming off second best.

might have been beaten much further by Ferny Hollow this time but probably still ran to a similar level as on his chasing debut and, with his sights lowered slightly, should be winning in this sphere soon; chased leaders, jumped adequately, in contention briefly 2 out (usual 3 out), one paced from home turn.

is a useful performer but he was entitled to be rusty after 22 months off and shaped accordingly (first-time tongue strap), so his next run should reveal more; fourth early, lost touch around halfway, plugged on latter stages.

A terrific renewal and both market principals delivered, with Ferny Hollow posting the highest Timeform rating by a novice chaser so far in 2021/22 as he successfully conceded 13 lb to the smart Riviere d'Etel in a truly-run race, the time of which compares very favourably with the following handicap over this trip.

FERNY HOLLOW (IRE) underlined what an outstanding prospect he is by lowering the colours of an on-song Riviere d'Etel despite her generous allowances, signalling his intentions by taking on that rival from the off, their resulting duel helping him post a high-class performance on the stopwatch too - it's hard to see anything laying much of a glove on him at either the Dublin or Cheltenham Festivals on this evidence; made all, jumped accurately, travelled powerfully, driven late on the extended run-in but always holding on.
