What promised to be a really informative renewal of this Grade 1 was decimated by a quartet of late withdrawals and ended up being little more than a public schooling session for the Gordon Elliott-trained pair.

BATTLEOVERDOYEN (IRE) made it 3 wins out of 3 over fences; dictated, jumped well, shaken up approaching last, hung left, always holding on; this told us nothing new about him but he remains open to improvement.

CHAMPAGNE CLASSIC (IRE) made his better-fancied stable companion pull out all the stops; tracked pace, effort approaching last, forced to switch run-in, kept on well; is reportedly being aimed at the NH Chase.
