is thoroughly likeable and wasted no time getting back on the up stepped up in class; waited with, had to wait for gap under 2f out, switched, found plenty to lead under 1f out, soon clear; sure to go well again, worth a try at an even higher level in this sort of form.

ran creditably and wasn't seen to absolutely best effect, not that he'd have troubled the winner even with a clear run; mid-field, shaken up entering straight, had to squeeze through narrow gap over 1f out, led briefly entering final 1f, kept on, no match for winner; will continue to give a good account.

has often been ready to go first time out in the past but is 9 now and shaped as if better for the run after 6 months off; in touch, every chance when edged left early in straight, dropped to fifth1f out, rallied late; likely to be much closer to form next time.

down the field in a competitive handicap hurdle last time, shaped encouragingly back on the Flat, the run possibly still needed; waited with, travelled smoothly, good headway early in straight, every chance 1f out, effort flattened out; looked at home in this company and one to be interested in with this behind him.

wasn't in quite the same form as last time, this sort of scenario perhaps not suiting him quite so well; close up, took keen hold, upsides 3f out, went on approaching straight, headed over 1f out, no extra; type to bounce back quickly.

probably needed the run after 6 months off, though he was well below form on his final run last season, too; made running, joined 3f out, headed soon after, weakened.

presumably needed the run quite badly, a similar story on his first couple of runs last year; patiently ridden, shaken up approaching straight, not quicken early in straight, left behind quickly.

No star name like can be the case in this but still an up-to-scratch renewal, even if potential was a bit thin on the ground, neither 4-y-o fully firing, the winner making the graduation from high-end handicaps with something to spare; the pace was sound.
