after 7 weeks off, got back on the up, not having an issue with the emphasis largely on speed returned to 1¼m and leaving the impression that there's a bit more to come, too; mid-division, headway between horses from 3f out, edged ahead entering final 1f, asserted late on.

is a really likeable horse and backed up his latest winning effort away from Chester, meeting some trouble too, though probably not quite enough to call him unlucky; tracked pace, effort when not clear run from 3f out, got gap under 2f out, ran on.

had an obvious chance at the weights, able to race from the same mark as when bringing up a hat-trick 9 days earlier, but he just wasn't in the same form back down in trip, this perhaps one run too many in a short period given how he'd been minded prior; mid-field, chased leaders briefly 3f out, not quicken 2f out, took fourth final 1f.

ran a bit better with the headgear left off without this being a full-blown revival, though he is lurking on an attractive mark if he can refind his form; chased leaders, every chance under 3f out, not quicken 1f out.

Non Runners: SOUTHERN VOYAGE (FR). Race Distance Adjustment: +15 yds

Winning Owner: Owners Group 096

Time: 2m 7.93s

Overrounds: Industry SP 121%, Betfair SP 99.6%

A good-quality handicap but one that probably didn't quite add up to the sum of its parts, only a trio giving their running, the 3 of them on or very close to the far rail in the straight in a race in which those who came wider seemed to struggle; the gallop was steady.

BERAZ (FR) after 7 weeks off, got back on the up, not having an issue with the emphasis largely on speed returned to 1¼m and leaving the impression that there's a bit more to come, too; mid-division, headway between horses from 3f out, edged ahead entering final 1f, asserted late on.

ZIRYAB gelded since last seen 12 weeks earlier, got back on track, having every chance from the front; led, kicked on around 3f out, headed entering final 1f, kept on but held late on.

THE CITY'S PHANTOM wasn't in the same form as last time in this deeper race; pressed leader, lost place 2f out, not quicken.

CHELSEA GREEN (IRE) was never involved, but did at least fare best of those held up, and she'll be more interesting back against her own sex.

JAMES MCHENRY back up in trip and without the headgear this time having been gelded since last seen, was below form, though this was another race that didn't show him to best advantage; missed the break, in rear, made little impression.

INTRICACY shaped as if all wasn't quite right in the end after 8 weeks off; raced off the pace, effort out wide over 3f out, hung right under 2f out, eased off.
