a winning hurdler from 3 starts in that sphere last season, had undergone wind surgery since last seen and made a successful debut over fences after 9 months off, value for extra, too; held up, went with zest, headway 3 out, led soon after last, edged left, idled, pushed out; a strong, strapping sort physically, he's likely to progress further in this sphere.

seemed suited by stepping back up in trip, the furthest he's tried over fences, and ran well; chased leaders, jumped fine, close up 4 out, kept on run-in, went second late on.

ran and shaped well in a strong race at Exeter, behind subsequent Grade 1 winner Esprit du Large, and is almost certainly on a fair mark, not meeting market expectations (well backed) but certainly running with credit without seeming ideally suited by the way the race developed; prominent, not always fluent, lost place when slow eleventh, close up again home turn, outpaced between 3 out and 2 out, short of room last, stuck to task; his jumping does need to improve a bit but it's early days yet and he should remain competitive in similar races at the very least.

a winning hurdler, bettered his previous ratings and shaped encouragingly sent chasing after 11 months off, unlucky not to finish closer; held up in touch, travelled strongly, mistake twelfth, headway 3 out, ridden when short of room between last 2, forced to switch, kept on; there's better to come and he's one to be interested in.

left chasing debut effort well behind, firmly in contention for most of the straight; close up, jumped better than last time, left in front after 5 out, headed when mistake 2 out, no extra late on.

a winning hurdler, showed aptitude for chasing after 8 months off and on the back of a breathing operation, shaping better than the distance beaten suggests, looking the most likely winner when jumping on; tracked pace, jumped fine, travelled well, led 2 out, headed run-in, faltered; he should improve, particularly at a track that's not so stiff.

An interesting novice handicap chase that should throw up plenty of winners over the season, but it was a bit of a muddling race on the day, the fast finishing sectional from 3 out underlining that the pace wasn't strong and it developed into something of a dash for home, explaining the bunched finish, and it all got crowded between the last 2 fences, Mystical Clouds the unlucky one.

PISTOL WHIPPED (IRE) a winning hurdler from 3 starts in that sphere last season, had undergone wind surgery since last seen and made a successful debut over fences after 9 months off, value for extra, too; held up, went with zest, headway 3 out, led soon after last, edged left, idled, pushed out; a strong, strapping sort physically, he's likely to progress further in this sphere.
