Yet another new name for this long-running pre-Festival staying handicap but rarely in its history has it proved so one-sided, due in large part to the novice Katate Dori's extraordinary progress since sent chasing but also a host of off-colour runs from the others in a race with an unusual tactical shape, with a strong gallop set by Beachcomber having done for many even before the winner made his move to the front and then pressed on himself, the favourite starting in a similar position to the winner but far from so as things were taking shape after Deutsch had moved closer from rear well before halfway.

KATATE DORI (FR) is amidst a remarkable climb through the ranks that has seen him go from defeated from marks in the low-110s in a quartet of handicap hurdles to routing a dozen rivals in one of the most valuable non-Festival staying handicap chases in the calendar, showing to some tune Wincanton hadn't done him justice as he racked up an even wider-margin success than those he'd managed in a couple of lower-quality handicaps to start his chasing career, the longest in the race since Gunther McBride came clear in similarly dominant style back in 2002; off pace out wide early, he made rapid headway to go close up before the seventh and galloped on relentlessly after jumping on 5 out, a mistake at the next not halting his momentum one iota; he's entered in 3 races at Cheltenham but, following such a big effort, it may be more prudent to wait for Aintree.

HYLAND (FR) was 15 lengths away from Katate Dori but that shouldn't disguise what was a really positive start in handicap chases following his sound grounding at graded level, doing all he could from what had become a nigh-on hopeless position by the time the winner committed fully; waited with, he'd lost ground without going at all badly by the sixth and had too much to do by the eleventh, but he closed well from there to pass all the others still going, ending up clear of them without making much impression on a winner who proved a revelation.

OUR POWER (IRE) almost certainly remains in form, beaten a long way by a stablemate producing something out of the ordinary but still outlasting the vast majority in an attritional renewal as he filled the placings; settled mid-field, took closer order twelfth, fourth when pushed along home turn, no further impression.

GUARD YOUR DREAMS was beaten further than in the Timeform on Trials' Day (first to come out of a race that always proves informative) but still ran better on the book in filling fourth against a bigger field of mostly established handicappers; held up, some headway twelfth, pushed along end of back straight, plugged on.

DEEPER BLUE (FR) shaped as if retaining ability tried tongue tied on his first outing since leaving Harry Fry after 10 months off, holding frame hopes when his gradual progress was ended by a severe error; waited with, headway under pressure from 4 out, fourth when bad mistake 2 out, not sustain effort.

BEACHCOMBER (FR) paid for trying to execute the same tactics that had seen him dominate lesser rivals over Christmas, leading until 5 out at a pace that had many on the back foot before he dropped away.

CHARLIE UBERALLES made a better fist of things in this stronger handicap than pulled up might suggest 10 weeks on from Doncaster; handy, third when ridden end of back straight, weakened.

UNANSWERED PRAYERS (IRE) found the fences getting in the way again in a well-run race at a shorter trip; settled mid-field first, lost place when hit next, clouted ninth, struggling early final circuit.

GOLDEN SON (FR) had one of his poor days after 8 weeks off; settled in touch, lost place when shaken up from eleventh, no response.

HELTENHAM (FR) didn't get home at all after shaping better than the majority, an 8-week break surely less of an issue than a well-run race at a longer trip; patiently ridden, travelled better than most, still plenty to do 5 out, crept closer approaching straight, faltered from 3 out; he's sure to benefit from a return to around 2½m and saving him for another crack at the Hillhouse Quarry at Ayr (still closing when falling 4 out in 2024) may be the way to go given the Trainers' Championship may still be on the line then.

CORRIGEEN ROCK (IRE) was beaten by more than lack of stamina upped in trip, sitting close to the strong pace in more exacting company more likely to blame; pressed leader early, lost place quickly twelfth.

TAHMURAS (FR) was lit up after 8 weeks off; waited with, took strong hold, some headway back straight, effort proved short-lived.

LOWRY'S BAR (IRE) suffered the first major setback of what has been a very bright start over fences; settled mid-field, lost place quickly early final circuit and found to have bled.
