A furious early gallop proved too much for plenty, with the field well stretched virtually from the off, and it placed the emphasis far more on stamina than might have been expected for 3m around Kempton on forgiving ground - that said, the form has a solid look to it, with the likeable winner landing his second valuable pot this season as he dug deep to overhaul one who'd clearly been laid out for the race.

OUR POWER (IRE) is a most likeable type and proved better than ever in making this winning return from 4 months off, relishing the emphasis on stamina as he gained compensation for his luckless third in last year's renewal; mid-division, jumped soundly, ridden from home turn, found plenty to lead run-in, held on gamely; this form puts him in the mix from a handicapping viewpoint for the Grand National, though plenty of horses need to come out for him to be a guaranteed runner in that so the Ultima at Cheltenham (not seen to best effect when fifth in 2022) or the valuable staying handicap over the Mildmay fences on Grand National day could be the way to go with him.

FLEGMATIK (FR) seems ideally suited by this track and, having attracted support at long odds through the week, bounced back to his best after a couple of rare below-par efforts; patiently ridden, travelled smoothly, rapid headway back straight, produced to lead 3 out, untidy last and headed soon after, rallied late on.

FRODON (FR) proved quite easy to back but ran respectably reverted to handicap company and needs no excuses; prominent, typically jumped well, lost place when outpaced briefly home turn, rallied for third latter stages.

BOBHOPEORNOHOPE (IRE) shaped as if still in good form and arguably deserves extra credit given he raced so close to the strong gallop; chased leader, ridden home turn, went second again briefly between 3 out and 2 out, plugged on latter stages.

KILLER KANE (IRE) faced a stiff task from 4 lb out of the handicap (including a penalty for his recent C&D win) and wasn't disgraced; mid-division, ridden when not clear run briefly home turn, one paced straight.

ENRILO (FR) shaped better than last time retried in headgear, though he was still beaten a fair way in the end and simply cannot be viewed as a reliable betting proposition at present; in touch, dropped away from home turn.

ANNSAM isn't handicapped out of things off a 7 lb higher mark for last month's C&D win (Tile Tapper and Kitty's Light have franked the form since) and is worth another chance to prove as much, simply paying the price here for overdoing the front-running tactics; went off very hard in front, headed when mistake 3 out, brushed aside quickly.

JACAMAR (GER) found this far too competitive back in a higher grade (also 2 lb out of the weights) and was never on terms having jumped none too fluently under a patient ride.

CAP DU NORD (FR) was strong in the betting to repeat his 2022 win even from 3 lb out of weights (including a penalty for last weekend's Ascot win) but was below form, the quick turnaround almost certainly a factor; in touch, shuffled back home turn and soon done with, albeit not persevered with once held.

KILLER CLOWN (IRE) fared no better after 3 months off and it would appear his gruelling reappearance at Market Rasen has left a mark; mid-division, blundered eighth, struggling from early final circuit, tailed off when fell 3 out.

BLACK GERRY (IRE) has plenty to prove after this second successive dismal display, beaten some way out after 11 weeks off.

SAINT CALVADOS (FR) is yet to fire this season, proving surprisingly easy to back reunited with Harry Cobden here (hood left off) and almost certainly folding due to more than lack of stamina back over this longer trip; dropped out, brief headway out wide back straight, folded tamely home turn, tailed off when pulled up between 3 out and 2 out.

CLONDAW CASTLE (IRE) went backwards from last month's comeback and never looked like repeating his 2021 win off the same mark; waited with, lost place when not fluent eleventh, never going well after, tailed off when pulled up 4 out.
