back down in trip, justified his short price with an authoritative victory, perhaps not needing to improve much in doing so, but suggesting there is more to come when required; patiently ridden, headway before 3 out, every chance straight, led approaching last, kept on run-in, won readily; he'll continue to give a good account, an obvious candidate for the Aintree Hurdle, surely limited mileage in taking on Paisley Park and Thyme Hill in the Stayers'.

up in class, proved at least as good as ever, given a positive ride over this shorter trip, sticking to his task determinedly after the winner had got away; led, shaken up 3 out, headed briefly home turn, headed approaching last, not quicken, kept on run-in.

after 2 months off, ran as well ever, confirming the promise of his return, but this was another wobbly effort under pressure and after looking a threat to all he didn't deliver all that looked likely; held up, travelled well, headway after 3 out, led briefly home turn, ridden straight, wandered and not quicken; well though he's running, his attitude is under suspicion.

wasn't disgraced, enough form in the book this season to suggest he's just not quite so good as he was, which will continue to make him difficult to place; held up, travelled well, shaken up 3 out, not quicken.

didn't have much to find, in theory, with the winner from Newbury and had won this race last season (at Cheltenham), but he wasn't at his best, a couple of jumping errors mid-race perhaps the main factor; pressed leader early, remained prominent, mistake fifth, not fluent sixth, lost place after, rallied before 3 out, ridden after, weakened home turn.

had claims on her best, getting weight all round, but she has yet to find her form this season, well held at a slightly higher level than usual; close up, pressed leader before 3 out, weakened home turn.

had leading claims on form, but turned in a lacklustre display, in trouble a fair way out; chased leaders, upsides before third, not fluent fourth, pushed along fifth, not fluent seventh, weakened, pulled up straight; he hadn't been due to run in this had it been staged at Cheltenham and perhaps the afterthought meant he wasn't quite so primed as he might have been, all in all probably best to excuse him.

A Grade 2 rescued from Cheltenham's abandoned New Year meeting, the field looking up to scratch, though McFabulous didn't need to improve much to land the prize, with his most obvious rivals on form not on song; the lead was contested and the pace solid as a result.
