improved again under a good front-running ride; led, shaken up over 2f out, quickened clear over 1f out, closed down well inside final 1f, always holding on; was fortunate to beat the runner-up, enjoying the run of things more than that one, but the way he put distance between himself and the pack when asked suggests there could be more to come, either at this trip or over shorter still.

back on all-weather after 4 months off, went like the best horse at the weights; mid-field, travelled smoothly (settled better than previously), had to wait for gap 2f out, kept on well final 1f, just failed, conceded first run; unlucky not to have won a handicap yet, but can put that right in the coming weeks.

turned in best effort of the season, despite leaving the impression this combination of trip and slow surface taxed his stamina; mid-division, travelled fluently, effort around 2f out, headway into second final 1f, effort flattened out; clearly retains a good chunk of the useful ability he showed at 3 yrs and is one to bear in mind when the emphasis is more on speed.

unproven at the trip, wasn't seen to best effect and is probably in better heart than recent form figures suggest; in rear, raced freely, effort around 2f out, hung right soon after, kept on from poor position final 1f and seemed to finish with running left; worth another try at this trip.

A useful handicap that should prove solid form, the winner building up a good strike rate since coming to this country, whilst the runner-up continues to shape well and the third is quite a likeable type; the gallop was fair at best.

VARIYANN (FR) improved again under a good front-running ride; led, shaken up over 2f out, quickened clear over 1f out, closed down well inside final 1f, always holding on; was fortunate to beat the runner-up, enjoying the run of things more than that one, but the way he put distance between himself and the pack when asked suggests there could be more to come, either at this trip or over shorter still.
