backed at long odds, showed improved form to land this Group 3, his relative experience and fitness (last ran in March, more recently than any of his rivals) standing him in good stead, well positioned, too; in touch, took strong hold, headway 2f out, led over 1f out, kept going well; he may stay a bit further still, in spite of the dam's side of his pedigree, but may not have a great deal more to come in the way of progress.

upped in trip, improved after 8 months off, doing fairly well to come from behind on the one hand, though he did enjoy a nice run through on the inside; soon steadied, took strong hold, headway on inner 2f out, forced to switch early in straight, kept on; he's a useful sort, but avenues for further progress aren't especially obvious at this stage.

who attracted support, shaped encouragingly up in grade after 5 months off, still not the finished article and not enjoying the smoothest of runs; dwelt, mid-division, hampered 3f out, forced wide entering straight, stayed on, never nearer; he's likely to be suited by 1½m and will go on improving as he gains experience.

upped in trip, shaped as if better for the run after 6 months off, encouragingly looking more professional than on his debut, moving quite well for a long way; tracked pace, travelled better than most, every chance early in straight, faded final 1f but not persevered with once held; he's open to further improvement, still a smart prospect.

was a bit underwhelming on the face of it but possibly needed the run after 8 months off, not enjoying the ideal trip, either; raced off the pace, headway out wide end of back straight, forced wider still 2f out, weakened approaching final 1f; he's probably worth another chance to build on his Zetland form.

faced with a stiff task after 7 months off, seen to good effect from the front but possible that she'll come on for the run; led, headed over 1f out, weakened; she may yet do better back in calmer waters, mindful that both her siblings progressed with a bit more time.

upped in trip after 7 months off, was easy to back and proved to be a disappointment, bearing in mind the distinct promise of her debut win, but she can have a line put through this, seeming to lack for know-how, quite possibly unsuited by this tight track, too; dwelt, in rear, forced wide home turn, some late headway but never dangerous; her Oaks claims clearly took a knock but she remains a filly with a good deal of potential, certainly worth another chance to confirm the very positive impression created last year.

Non Runners: HIGHLAND CHIEF (IRE), YES MY BOY (IRE).

It's a long time since this proved to be much of a classic trial and, with the pair with leading form claims failing to make an impact, that trend seems likely to continue; the pace was modest and, as can often be the case on Kempton's tight inner circuit, things got a bit messy from 3f out.

BERLIN TANGO backed at long odds, showed improved form to land this Group 3, his relative experience and fitness (last ran in March, more recently than any of his rivals) standing him in good stead, well positioned, too; in touch, took strong hold, headway 2f out, led over 1f out, kept going well; he may stay a bit further still, in spite of the dam's side of his pedigree, but may not have a great deal more to come in the way of progress.

PYLEDRIVER upped in trip, improved after 8 months off, doing fairly well to come from behind on the one hand, though he did enjoy a nice run through on the inside; soon steadied, took strong hold, headway on inner 2f out, forced to switch early in straight, kept on; he's a useful sort, but avenues for further progress aren't especially obvious at this stage.

BRIGHT MELODY (IRE) who attracted support, shaped encouragingly up in grade after 5 months off, still not the finished article and not enjoying the smoothest of runs; dwelt, mid-division, hampered 3f out, forced wide entering straight, stayed on, never nearer; he's likely to be suited by 1½m and will go on improving as he gains experience.

MAX VEGA (IRE) was a bit underwhelming on the face of it but possibly needed the run after 8 months off, not enjoying the ideal trip, either; raced off the pace, headway out wide end of back straight, forced wider still 2f out, weakened approaching final 1f; he's probably worth another chance to build on his Zetland form.
