back over hurdles, caused a major surprise, no fluke about it either as she showed useful form on just her second start for the yard, the longer trip maybe suiting; patiently ridden, slow sixth, smooth headway home turn, quickened to lead before 2 out, drew clear, ridden out; she's only a tiddler and it's hard to believe she'll ever be as good over fences as a result.

ran his best race on handicap debut after 8 months off; soon led, jumped well in main, took strong hold, headed approaching 2 out, left behind by winner, mistake last, kept on; he's clearly on a competitive mark, but it's likely to be over fences that he becomes more interesting, his size and demeanour pointing to him being a better chaser.

had undergone a breathing operation since his previous outing 7 weeks earlier and ended up running creditably as usual, finding this barely enough of a test, but he does tend to run the same race whatever the distance/circumstances and has still to win a handicap; made running, outpaced after sixth, lost place, rallied home turn, kept on well.

found run of good form coming to a halt, surely on a stiff mark now (up another 6 lb for previous effort) but the extra weight alone not solely to blame; mid-field, driven after 3 out, soon done with.

seemed amiss after 7 months off, the rider reporting that he'd hung badly right-handed, though a subsequent veterinary examination didn't reveal anything untoward; handy, lost place after sixth, pulled up before next; he's got some strong-looking novice form to his name but does have something to prove after his last 2 performances.

Solid-looking form for all the race was won by a 100/1 chance, the runner-up a handicap debutant from a top yard and the third a reliable sort for all he doesn't win very often.

FLEUR IRLANDAISE (FR) back over hurdles, caused a major surprise, no fluke about it either as she showed useful form on just her second start for the yard, the longer trip maybe suiting; patiently ridden, slow sixth, smooth headway home turn, quickened to lead before 2 out, drew clear, ridden out; she's only a tiddler and it's hard to believe she'll ever be as good over fences as a result.
