returned to form from out of the blue, the return to polytrack seemingly the key, overcoming his higher mark in this sphere; held up, effort straight, headway over 1f out, quickened to lead final 50 yds.

lightly raced for age, shaped well after 9 months off, clearly retaining all his ability; handy, ridden straight, led over 1f out, kept on, headed final 50 yds; he probably has a still better effort in him, but his 3 runs last year were well spaced, so there is a concern that he wouldn't build on this if turned out relatively soon.

back on polytrack, wasted no time getting back to form, seeming effective at the trip, at least when faced with a test of speed more than stamina; mid-division, headway early in straight, every chance inside final 1f, no extra near line.

wasn't disgraced in first-time cheekpieces, though that was largely due to the muddling nature of the race, less encouragement to be drawn from the way he went; raced off the pace, went in snatches, outpaced straight, stayed on final 1f.

All 11 ran.

Winning Owner: The 1901 Partnership

Time: 3m 26.86s Closing Sectional: (3.00f): 36.70s (105.8%)

The seemingly obligatory steady pace at 2m on this track rendered this a typically muddling affair, the winner coming from off the pace, but an ability to quicken was more important than position.

AGE OF WISDOM (IRE) returned to form from out of the blue, the return to polytrack seemingly the key, overcoming his higher mark in this sphere; held up, effort straight, headway over 1f out, quickened to lead final 50 yds.

PERCY'S WORD lightly raced for age, shaped well after 9 months off, clearly retaining all his ability; handy, ridden straight, led over 1f out, kept on, headed final 50 yds; he probably has a still better effort in him, but his 3 runs last year were well spaced, so there is a concern that he wouldn't build on this if turned out relatively soon.

ARAB MOON back on polytrack, wasted no time getting back to form, seeming effective at the trip, at least when faced with a test of speed more than stamina; mid-division, headway early in straight, every chance inside final 1f, no extra near line.

JUST IN TIME shaped encouragingly after 8 months off over 4f longer trip, perhaps the most interesting of these with decent handicaps in mind this summer; held up, effort straight, challenged over 1f out, not quicken final 100 yds.

WEST COAST FLYER well backed, ran creditably over 2f longer trip, effective over it, though this was hardly a test of stamina; in rear, effort straight, good headway over 1f out, not quicken final 100 yds.

PIEDITA (IRE) shaped as if retaining ability after 10 months off, her overexuberance telling late on; waited with, refused to settle, effort entering straight, challenged over 1f out, one paced; remains unexposed.

PETITIONER (IRE) upped markedly in trip, was well backed but seemed not to see out the longer distance, despite the steady pace and a good position; prominent, travelled well, shaken up over 2f out, led soon after, headed over 1f out, weakened.

QUOTHQUAN (FR) wasn't disgraced in first-time cheekpieces, though that was largely due to the muddling nature of the race, less encouragement to be drawn from the way he went; raced off the pace, went in snatches, outpaced straight, stayed on final 1f.

RAKE'S PROGRESS upped markedly in trip, was well held after just 7 days off, looking a non-stayer, despite the steady pace he himself set; dictated, kicked on 3f out, headed over 2f out, weakened over 1f out.

GAVLAR was well held, though hardly likely to be seen to best advantage given the sort of ride he was; in touch, rapid headway to race close up circuit out, left behind over 2f out.

SANDRO BOTTICELLI (IRE) fared no better after 11 weeks off; prominent, left behind over 2f out.
