confirmed Haydock promise 8 weeks on, nothing in this able to pinch the race as Its'afreebee had that day, shaping up to be a smart hurdler, one who'll relish a well-run, big-field handicap; prominent main group, tanked along, loomed up 2 out, edged ahead approaching last, ridden run-in, quickened clear; very speedy but clearly not averse to bad ground, he's one to keep on the right side.

given 7 weeks off since Wetherby, is improving fast on this evidence, no mean feat to be able to see off one of Lake View Lad's calibre as the pair battled in front yet still have enough left to hold second; pressed leader, went on before straight, headed soon after 2 out, rallied well, no match for winner; in good hands and certain to stay beyond 2½m, he's sure to win more races.

has improved with each run in this sphere as it is but could scale some even loftier heights if he were to ever learn to settle properly, such eagerness likely to scupper hopes he'll benefit from the sort of stamina tests for which he's bred, too free here even dropped out with a contested pace ahead yet moving smoothly to get upsides briefly 2 out, understandably paying for his earlier exertions approaching the last; perhaps a strongly-run handicap - or fences - will see him put it all together.

whose rider was unable to claim, still has to go down as a flop after 5 weeks off, returning a well-held fourth and coming off the worse in his private battle with The Dutchman to boot; forced pace, blundered third, headed before end of back straight, weakened home turn.

failed to repeat his Lingfield effort, that form perhaps not robust, though it's at least as likely he didn't take the quick turnaround as a lightly-raced 8-y-o, soon left trailing after 3 out.

A useful novice, even with 2 of the more obvious contenders disappointing; duelling leaders ensured it was a good stamina test, credit to one of them - The Dutchman - for sticking at it as he did, though there's little doubt the one with the most ability came out on top regardless.
