had made a promising start over hurdles for S. Culin in France last spring and made a successful British debut after 9 months off, a useful and gutsy effort to give weight to the runner-up; in touch, shaken up briefly end of back straight, led soon after 3 out, joined next, dug deep under pressure, showing a good attitude to hold on; he remains with potential, though from a BHA mark of 137 he will need to up his game if going down the handicapping route.

is going the right way in this sphere and would have won this if his jumping had been better in the straight; in touch, travelled best, went handy 3 out, upsides when flattened 2 out and lost some momentum, bumped last, kept on but always just held; this ought to help with his development as a hurdler and he remains capable of better.

The gulf in class between the first 2 in the betting and the rest quickly became apparent after the third last, both of them promising young hurdlers.

DIVIN BERE (FR) had made a promising start over hurdles for S.

MASTER BLUEYES (IRE) is going the right way in this sphere and would have won this if his jumping had been better in the straight; in touch, travelled best, went handy 3 out, upsides when flattened 2 out and lost some momentum, bumped last, kept on but always just held; this ought to help with his development as a hurdler and he remains capable of better.

SHRUBLAND has an aptitude for this job and ran to a similar level as on hurdling bow; tracked pace, outpaced after 3 out, plugged on, no match for principals.

TEMPLIER (IRE) went backwards from winning hurdling bow; led, bad mistake 3 out, headed soon after, tied up.

KING JULIEN (IRE) was well held after 10 weeks off; pressed leader, took strong hold, struggling after 3 out.

HEAD HIGH (IRE) a maiden on the Flat for Kevin Ryan, probably needed the run sent hurdling after 8 months off; dropped out, crept closer after fifth, weakened 3 out.

MAGNIFICENT MADIBA showed nothing; in rear, labouring badly fifth.
