was fitter for last month's Chepstow reappearance, taking advantage of a 5 lb drop in the weights and probably benefiting from the longer trip, too, as he resumed winning ways; raced wide, in touch, travelled smoothly, headway 5 out, went on home turn, kept up to work; hasn't had the truly-run race that seems sure to suit since scoring at Kempton last December, and looks the type to step up again in big-field handicaps this season.

ran creditably after 7 months off, proving his effectiveness at the trip, which will open up more avenues for him this term; mid-field, pushed along home turn, kept on from 2 out; should remain competitive.

continues to progress, and would likely have given Bivouac plenty more to think about but for making a late error when beginning his challenge; held up, headway under pressure approaching 3 out, keeping on when hit next, not quicken run-in.

wasn't disgraced after 7 months off; chased leaders, outpaced home turn, stayed on run-in without getting on terms; will benefit from a return to around 3m, or at least a better gallop at this sort of trip.

stepped up on last month's reappearance despite once again being unsuited by the emphasis on speed at the trip, though it needs pointing out that he still has room for improvement in his jumping; tracked pace, took keen hold early, mistake third, hit fourth, pushed along 3 out, beaten when hit last.

was well backed 8 months after shaping well in the Martin Pipe at the Festival, but he was a reluctant pacemaker and finished well held, this run best excused all told; led, shaken up 4 out, headed soon after next, faded; remains unexposed.

was fit from the Flat (wore cheekpieces last time) and fared no better over hurdles for his new yard than when last seen over jumps in a Catterick novice chase for John Quinn earlier in the year; in rear, shaken up approaching 3 out, lost touch soon after.

A good-quality handicap hurdle, though they did little more than canter in the early stages, nobody really wanting to lead, the pace quickening up after halfway, Bivouac travelling best and fending off the late challenges of Ruacana and Lil Rockerfeller.

BIVOUAC (FR) was fitter for last month's Chepstow reappearance, taking advantage of a 5 lb drop in the weights and probably benefiting from the longer trip, too, as he resumed winning ways; raced wide, in touch, travelled smoothly, headway 5 out, went on home turn, kept up to work; hasn't had the truly-run race that seems sure to suit since scoring at Kempton last December, and looks the type to step up again in big-field handicaps this season.
