Only 5 survived what was a demanding test all round, plenty struggling a long way out, and despite a good pace it wasn't a race that many got seriously involved in; it should prove solid form amongst the principals and some of those that didn't complete are worth another chance under less extreme conditions.

THE DUTCHMAN (IRE) didn't see things out at Cheltenham on his previous start but it clearly wasn't lack of stamina that day, up another 2f back over fences here and seeming suited by it, producing a career best; never far away, jumped boldly and travelled well, led after fourth, headed after ninth, led again after 4 out, mistake 2 out, stayed on well; he's unexposed as a staying chaser and, still very lightly raced for this stable, may do better still.

CAPTAIN REDBEARD (IRE) goes well at this track and is thriving, showing new depths of stamina too, not having a problem with another 3f step up in distance, running at least as well in defeat as when winning the time before from 9 lb higher in the weights and in a better race; chased leaders, travelled better than most, hit ninth, not fluent 4 out, chased leader after 2 out, one paced; he's likely to continue in form.

HAINAN (FR) ran creditably 8 weeks after winning over a marathon trip here, finding the test barely adequate dropped back 3f; chased leaders, lost place when slow 5 out, outpaced after next, struggling before 2 out but kept on well; he'll benefit from a return to 3½m+.

YALA ENKI (FR) ran creditably, worth a bit of extra credit as he served it up to the winner for a long way and maybe had less left as a result; led until fourth, remained prominent, led again after ninth, headed again after 4 out, one paced from 2 out.

FINE RIGHTLY (IRE) has won over this far but only in a 3-runner race and quite clearly failed to stay faced with a thorough test at this trip (best at short of 3m); patiently ridden, travelled powerfully, smooth headway before 3 out, shaken up approaching last, found nothing.

TINTERN THEATRE (IRE) would've finished well beaten if he'd completed but was set to shape better than the distance he'd have been beaten, surprisingly not seeming to relish the extreme test; held up, travelled well, headway after halfway, chased leaders after 4 out, mistake next, weakened, behind when unseated rider last.

FOREST DES AIGLES (FR) didn't get home over the 2f longer trip and probably remains in form; mid-division, effort before 3 out, weakened, found the test too much.

KNOCKANRAWLEY (IRE) produced a laboured effort; mid-division, went in snatches, struggling after twelfth, tailed off when pulled up before 2 out.

HIGHLAND LODGE (IRE) ran no sort of race away from the National fences; prominent, looked none too keen, lost place fifth, behind when pulled up before tenth.

WALK IN THE MILL (FR) was unable to handle such extreme conditions over the longest trip he's tackled (needs emphasis less on stamina); chased leaders, lost place twelfth, beaten before 3 out, pulled up.

CAROLE'S DESTRIER ran poorly; in rear, struggling when not fluent eleventh, pulled up before next.

ROCK THE KASBAH (IRE) after 3 months off, proved to be a disappointment; made mistakes, never travelling well, behind ninth, pulled up.

PTIT ZIG (FR) turned in a lacklustre display, seems to be going the wrong way; mid-division, jumped none too fluently, early reminders, lost place after fourth, tailed off when pulled up before 2 out.
