is finally getting his act together, and in no uncertain terms, here gaining compensation for Aintree, in a role reversal from Chesterfield's race in that he was in command when the fall of a Seamus Mullins-trained horse left him clear; held up, smooth headway from 3 out, quickened to lead between last 2, impressive; ideally served by 2m with the emphasis on speed, he looks ready for an even higher grade now, Galway maybe on the agenda.

is threatening to come good soon, shaping well - and not looking a weak finisher - for the second start in a row after 7 weeks off, exaggerated waiting tactics preventing him going closer still; dropped out, off pace still 3 out, progress after next, left in frame last, took second run-in, left with a lot to do; one to keep on the right side.

coped better than might have been expected with the step up in grade, running at least as well in defeat as when winning (from 8 lb lower) at Perth, especially considering he ended up poorly placed; held up, travelled well, still plenty to do 3 out, crept closer next, stayed on, went third final 100 yds.

This looked the strongest Swinton in a while but, as comes with the territory in a race at this stage of the year, several were probably over the top behind an admittedly representative winner, while a few ended up too far back after Multiculture had been allowed his own way early, Fergall's late fall - when booked for second - compounding matters in a race that promised more strength than it delivered.

JOHN CONSTABLE (IRE) is finally getting his act together, and in no uncertain terms, here gaining compensation for Aintree, in a role reversal from Chesterfield's race in that he was in command when the fall of a Seamus Mullins-trained horse left him clear; held up, smooth headway from 3 out, quickened to lead between last 2, impressive; ideally served by 2m with the emphasis on speed, he looks ready for an even higher grade now, Galway maybe on the agenda.

GREAT FIGHTER coped better than might have been expected with the step up in grade, running at least as well in defeat as when winning (from 8 lb lower) at Perth, especially considering he ended up poorly placed; held up, travelled well, still plenty to do 3 out, crept closer next, stayed on, went third final 100 yds.

ZUBAYR (IRE) failed to fully repeat his Ayr effort, not having quite the same positional advantages this time; mid-division, close up entering straight, one paced.

WILLIAM H BONNEY shaped quite well again after 9 weeks off, albeit promising a shade more than he delivered as he closed at the same time as the winner; patiently ridden, smooth headway from 3 out, held when left in a place last, effort flattened out.

ZULU OSCAR up in grade, did enough to confirm his return to form after Chepstow (had subsequent winner back in second); settled in rear out wide, outpaced home turn, ran on late, never nearer, found the test inadequate; remains qualified for lesser handicaps.
