A fairly useful handicap on balance, the first 2 both having been given a chance by the handicapper, though they perhaps also benefited from making their challenges on what could have been the favoured part of the track on the near side, with those that forced the pace towards the centre all ending up well beaten, the third deserving plenty of credit having raced just behind that trio.

BERGERAC (IRE) built on his good York run by going one better in determined fashion, recording an eighth career success, possibly aided by better track position than most; in touch, headway under pressure towards near side over 1f out, led final 1f, kept on; he held his form reasonably well after winning at Newcastle last summer and should remain competitive.

BROOKLYN NINE NINE (IRE) had usual headgear left off and got back on track having been given a chance by the handicapper (5 lb below last winning mark), doing his best work late on having typically been a bit sluggish in the early stages, though worth noting he did appear to be on the best part of the track closest to the stand-side rail; slowly into stride, in rear, switched under 2f out, kept on towards near side well final 1f; he's handicapped to win but will never be one to put maximum faith in given his slow-starting tendencies.

ALBEGONE ran creditably attempting to follow up his recent Catterick success in this better grade, going through the race best of all and denied only by a pair of well-treated rivals who raced more towards the near side than he did; in touch, travelled well, challenged 1f out, no extra last ½f; he's on a career-high mark but it shouldn't prove beyond him on this evidence.

TRILBY ran respectably following a lesser effort at Haydock last time, his task made that bit harder by a slow start but finishing off well enough towards the near side; slowly into stride, raced off the pace, ridden over 1f out, stayed on final 1f, nearest at the finish.

BLUE DAY shaped as if still in good form, his finishing effort perhaps blunted by this slightly slower ground and he also raced more towards the centre than the first 2; mid-field, headway 2f out, every chance 1f out, no extra last ½f.

MANILA SCOUSE wasn't disgraced and he certainly isn't one to give up on, now 2 lb below last winning mark; in touch, headway over 1f out, weakened final 1f.

ZARZYNI (IRE) wasn't seen entirely to best effect and is probably still in decent-enough nick, a return to a slightly lesser grade likely to be of benefit; raced off the pace, headway when forced to switch approaching final 1f, no further impression.

REIGNING PROFIT (IRE) had the benefit of a good 5-lb claimer but fared no better than last time; dived right leaving stalls, raced off the pace, not clear run 2f out, made little impression.

CURIOUS ROVER (IRE) found run of good form coming to a halt, though did cut out the running on possibly the slower part of the track; led until final 1f, weakened.

MARCHING MAC (IRE) is probably better judged on his Epsom run for now, caught on the far flank this time; prominent, raced freely, every chance over 1f out.

ORIENTAL PRINCE ran poorly with usual hood left off, the trouble he met merely incidental; in touch, ridden over 2f out, short of room over 1f out, soon beaten.

NEVER DARK failed to come on for recent run; prominent, ridden over 1f out, weakened final 1f.
