down in grade, got back on the up from out of the blue; close up, travelled fluently, upsides over 1f out, headed final 1f, rallied to lead again final 100 yds; he'll be forced back into a more competitive environment next time and his patchy profile means he can't be trusted to be in the same form.

after 22 months off, showed improved form; chased leader, shaken up under 2f out, upsides over 1f out, edged ahead final 1f, headed final 100 yds; as his SP suggested, he was clearly primed for this return and he's no banker to go the right way next time, his fragility to this point an underlying concern.

back down in trip, ran to a similar level to last time; led, shaken up over 2f out, headed over 1f out, no extra; he's still 3 lb higher in weights than for his last success, but did hit top form around this time last year so isn't one to dismiss completely.

after just 6 days off, is better judged on previous form, having plenty on from 4 lb out of the handicap and also not helped by slipping after 2f; raced off the pace, ridden over 2f out, beaten when hung right 1f out, never landed a blow.

is best excused this run; mid-field, slipped after 2f and lit up as a result, lost place over 3f out, shaken up soon after, not quicken, not persevered with once held.

Non Runners: EMPIRESTATEOFMIND (IRE). Race Distance Adjustment: +8 yds

Winning Owner: Dr J. Walker

Time: 1m 44.22s Closing Sectional: (3f): 33.85s (110.7%)

Overrounds: Industry SP 118%, Betfair SP 101.8%

A decidedly useful handicap, but one in which the gallop only really picked up from halfway, whilst it was made up of largely exposed types, the winner one of only two 3-y-os in the field, the bit of improvement he found enough to see him home from the well-backed favourite; incidentally, a couple of runners slipped on the bend, resulting in the only other race around the loop being abandoned.

AUSTRIAN THEORY (IRE) down in grade, got back on the up from out of the blue; close up, travelled fluently, upsides over 1f out, headed final 1f, rallied to lead again final 100 yds; he'll be forced back into a more competitive environment next time and his patchy profile means he can't be trusted to be in the same form.
