A quality Group 2, featuring principally a rematch between the first and third from the King Charles III at Royal Ascot, Big Evs turning the tables on Asfoora on a track that suits him well, a third clash between the pair in the Nunthorpe something to savour, though with the revised weights favouring the runner-up; the field raced essentially as one group down the centre, though Ponntos was isolated to halfway.

BIG EVS (IRE) is a really likeable speedster and he turned the tables on Asfoora from the King Charles III on a track that plays more to his strengths, his rider doing well not to get caught up in Ponntos's early exuberance; broke well, travelled well, led 1f, led again 2f out, ridden approaching final 1f, kept on, just held on; he has unfinished business in the Nunthorpe after his flop last year, though he'll have his work cut out to confirm placings on 6 lb worse terms with the runner-up.

ASFOORA (AUS) ran a cracker under a penalty, getting going just a fraction too late, slight interference when making her move probably not enough to make the difference, though it hardly helped; patiently ridden, travelled well, effort under 2f out, carried left inside final 1f, kept on well, just failed; she'll be entitled to turn the tables with the winner on revised terms at York and is very much the one to beat in the Nunthorpe.

BELIEVING (IRE) under a penalty for her win last time, ran as well as she ever has, doing excellent work late on; slowly into stride, held up, effort 2f out, headway entering final 1f, stayed on, nearest at the finish; she deserves to take her chance against the first 2 in the Nunthorpe, though the Flying Five at the Curragh might well be her ideal race.

LIVE IN THE DREAM (IRE) returned to form under a change of rider after not firing the last twice, likely to give a good account in his bid to win the Nunthorpe again, even if others here have even stronger claims; handy, went with zest, shaken up 2f out, challenged entering final 1f, not quicken final 100 yds.

KERDOS (IRE) ran respectably under a penalty, matching his placing in the King Charles III, though again with no real excuses; waited with, travelled well, shaken up over 1f out, chased leader inside final 1f, no extra last ½f.

STARLUST back in a better race, wasn't in the same form as last time under a more patient ride, perhaps the track not ideal either, his good record at York likely to encourage a tilt at the Nunthorpe, though he has something to find; raced off the pace, shaken up 2f out, kept on late on, made no impression.

ROGUE LIGHTNING (IRE) back in a hood, was unable to build on the step forward he'd made at York last time returned to pattern company, just not quite firing this year; held up, shaken up halfway, hung right, hampered 1f out, weakened, not persevered with once held.

PONNTOS (IRE) found his good run of form coming to an abrupt halt after 2 months off, taking charge of his rider and running out of puff as a result; pulled way to front after 1f, headed 2f out, weakened approaching final 1f.

STURLASSON (IRE) was overfaced in this company and never got involved; slowly into stride, held up, shaken up halfway, made no impression.

DESPERATE HERO seemed to find this grade a bridge too far and was well below form, trying to keep pace with Big Evs his undoing; tracked pace, travelled well, shaken up under 2f out, not quicken, weakened inside final 1f.
