A false pace to a competitive renewal of this year's Supreme Stakes resulted in a messy finish, one from which the runner-up ought to have emerged in front, his bid to overcome a poor position compared to the pair he split coming up only just shy, Limato heading the list of end-of-season underperformances behind.

SUEDOIS (FR) ended a losing run stretching nearly 2 years, no more deserving a winner given his string of sound placed efforts, dipping back to a Group 3 (one in which his old conqueror Limato flopped) one tonic and a switched-on ride clearly another; never far away, he quickened into a decisive lead under 2f out but was clinging on by the line, Momkin likely to have got him had his run started sooner.

MOMKIN (IRE) is building a frustrating run of his own but should have ended it here against the serial fall-short merchant ahead, asked for his effort all too late in a falsely-run race, apparently rider overconfidence as much as anything; patiently ridden, he travelled smoothly and was still going well when switched approaching final 1f, shaken up only then before quickening well inside the final 1f to close the gap rapidly by the line, concession of first run crucial.

LARCHMONT LAD (IRE) ran right up to his best, only one blip on his record in a light 2019; disputed lead 1f, remained prominent, had to wait for gap briefly 1f out, effort soon after, kept on well inside final 1f.

DI FEDE (IRE) is running consistently well, doing all she could here, things not unfolding ideally for all she was probably only fourth best on the day regardless; in touch, shaken up 2f out, short of room and forced to switch entering final 1f, rallied.

BRETON ROCK (IRE) added to a losing run dating back to the 2017 edition of this, basically too reliant on a certain scenario to make him of consistent interest these days; patiently ridden, outpaced 2f out, stayed on late on, never nearer.

LIMATO (IRE) fared little better than in the much choppier waters of the July Cup, given 7 weeks off since but posting a tame display, his win 2 starts back suggesting his ability is mostly intact but efforts either side indicating his consistency isn't; mid-division, good headway briefly 2f out, effort proved short-lived.

FOX CHAMPION (IRE) failed to meet expectations, an effort even more underwhelming considering he didn't have to work hard once getting to the front; disputed lead, went on after 1f, headed under 2f out, dropped away final 1f.

MOT JUSTE (USA) faced a stiff task back in an open Group race against elders; tracked pace, pushed along under 3f out, left behind final 1f.

ANNA NERIUM added to a patchy 2019 record; raced off the pace, pushed along over 2f out, made no impression.

ANGEL'S HIDEAWAY (IRE) in first-time cheekpieces, wasn't seen to best effect, not well placed the way it developed; steadied at the start, dropped right out, still plenty to do 2f out, progress briefly, effort flattened out.
