Non Runners: HOOFALONG, POLYBIUS.

Winning Owner: Michael & Heather Yarrow

Time: 1m 12.28s Closing Sectional: (4.00f): 47.00s (102.5%)

There's no knocking this result at the top end, with in-form and/or potentially well-treated sprinters coming to the fore, but there weren't any unexposed ones among them - unlike the last 2 renewals of this race - and the overall competitiveness was reduced by a major bias in favour of those near the far rail, those drawn higher than the the well-ridden winner having next to no chance.

LANCELOT DU LAC (ITY) in a hood for the first time since his 3-y-o days, proved at least as good as ever to land the big prize he's often threatened, always looking like holding on in the last 1f after his jockey had made the wise early decision to head towards the far rail; prominent, effort over 1f out, stayed on well.

AEOLUS in first-time cheekpieces, ran close to his very best on a rare start in handicap company and might even have given the winner a race with an uninterrupted run; mid-division, headway when not clear run over 1f out, finished well; he doesn't win much but keeps tough company and usually gives it a good shot and is obviously on a fair mark.

UPSTAGING didn't look all that well-in under a penalty but had a good-value claimer in the saddle and produced another career best, needing no excuses from an ideal position; tracked pace, ridden over 2f out, chased leader final 1f, ran on.

GROWL back in headgear, ran up to his best with a claimer in the saddle back in handicap company, impressing with the way he went through the race, and perhaps his losing a shoe over 1f out didn't help his finishing effort; prominent, travelled well, effort over 1f out, every chance final 1f, no extra late on.

SHANGHAI GLORY (IRE) fitter for comeback and back on the sort of going that seems to suit him ideally, bounced back to his best, taking into account he met a bit of trouble along the way; chased leaders, hampered over 2f out, met some trouble approaching final 1f, ran on; he could be the type to go well in the Ayr Gold Cup, where he's likely to get his ground.

HOOF IT fitter for comeback, returned to form back at a track where he goes well, probably running as well as he can nowadays; led until before halfway, effort 2f out, one paced.

DANZENO top weight under a penalty, did well under the circumstances back at 6f after making his effort on the worst part of the track and looks back in the sort of form that's seen him competitive in pattern races, likely to be a major player at that level next time; dwelt, held up, still plenty to do 2f out, headway out wide final 1f, finished well.

SOLAR FLAIR back on turf, shaped as if back in form, likely to have been close to his very best with a better run through; in touch, short of room over 1f out, ran on.

DONJUAN TRIUMPHANT (IRE) without a tongue strap this time and back down in trip, shaped better than the bare result from a hopeless position back from 3 months off and is potentially well treated now, having finished second in a Group 1 almost a year to the day earlier; held up, progress on outer over 1f out, ran on but had no chance.

CLASSIC SENIORITY back in headgear, probably remains in form; mid-division, ridden 3f out, one paced, never landed a blow.

EASTERN IMPACT (IRE) wasn't disgraced in first-time cheekpieces but had no excuses from a prime position; prominent, every chance under 2f out, faded final 1f.

RAUCOUS in a change of headgear, is better on previous form as a bad draw left him poorly placed; raced well off the pace, pushed along out wide over 2f out, never involved.

INTISAAB was below form but in fairness never had much room to open up; bumped start, mid-division, ridden 2f out, made no impression.

PROJECTION shaped much better than the bare result, paying the price for a mid-race move from a poor position; badly drawn, held up, progress over 2f out, faded final 1f; he remains the type to win one of these.

STAKE ACCLAIM (IRE) shaped as if still in good form in a better race than he usually tackles; chased leaders, every chance under 2f out, weakened inside final 1f.

DUKE OF FIRENZE is best not judged on this, always behind a wall of horses and never in it.

POYLE VINNIE is better judged on what he did over 5f here 4 days earlier; held up, ridden under 2f out, never involved, not well placed.

EDWARD LEWIS had been shaping up well from this mark and is worth another chance; held up, effort 2f out, made no impression but wasn't ideally placed.

HARRY HURRICANE after just 4 days off, is best excused this run, barely having a race after being dropped right out.

GO FAR without usual headgear, was below form; mid-division towards outer, ridden under 3f out, weakened final 1f.

BRIAN THE SNAIL (IRE) fared no better with blinkers on back in a handicap and has it all to prove now; mid-field, no room 2f out, weakened.

AL QAHWA (IRE) was well held but did endure a rough race; mid-division, pushed along 3f out, shuffled back over 2f out, no chance after.

PERFECT PASTURE was well held; in rear, never involved and spared a hard race.

MOBSTA (IRE) again finished well held, not helped by a bad position; poorly drawn, well off the pace, always behind.

OUTBACK TRAVELLER (IRE) in first-time visor, shaped as if amiss; worst of draw, raced off the pace, brief headway out wide over 2f out, weakened.
