proved at least as good as ever to supplement his 2014 win in this race (close second up to Muthmir in 2015), the track really playing to the strengths of one that's all speed; made running, shaken up approaching final 1f, edged right, kept on well, driven out; he's a credit to his trainer and is sure to continue giving a good account.

down at 5f for the first time since winning last season's Windsor Castle, seemed suited by the drop back in trip and turned in a career best, getting a smooth run through and making the winner pull out all the stops, showing form that should see him winning pattern races; held up, travelled fluently, good headway 1f out, challenged final 1f, ran on.

winner of the King's Stand and Abbaye last season, shaped as if retaining all his ability 4 months on from when last seen in Meydan (has missed a couple of engagements due to unsuitable ground in the meantime), right in the mix with some race-fit rivals and sure to be a major player in the top 5f races for the rest of the season; prominent, travelled well, effort under 2f out, challenged final 1f, ran on.

looked well at home out of listed company for the first time this term and shaped well, not stretching it to say she'd have gone close had the race developed slightly differently; held up, travelled fluently, still bit to do and not clearest run under 2f out, headway entering final 1f, finished with a flourish; she'll make her presence felt in the Nunthorpe.

wasn't disgraced without quite matching her York form (when ahead of Easton Angel), maybe found wanting for bit of know-how in the best race she's ever contested, also on a different type of track to previously this term, and the big impression she's created up to now remains very much intact; mid-division, every chance when switched approaching final 1f, kept on.

returned to form after 6 weeks off and more than anything else was unlucky not to finish closer, probably back in the sort of nick that saw him win the Temple and finish fourth in the King's Stand in 2015; held up, travelled smoothly, headway when hampered entering final 1f, forced to switch, finished with running left.

All 17 ran.

Winning Owner: Norcroft Park Stud

Time: 56.86s Closing Sectional: (3.00f): 34.15s (99.9%)

There were only a couple of notable absentees among the best 5f performers from a field that would've befitted a Group 1 and the form is close to off the standard needed to win at that level, though luck and tactics are always a significant factor in races of such fine margins and the order among the principals might easily be different should they meet again; the winner made all and the action in the finish took place towards the far side, with the high-drawn runners that stayed closer to the stand side up against it.

TAKE COVER proved at least as good as ever to supplement his 2014 win in this race (close second up to Muthmir in 2015), the track really playing to the strengths of one that's all speed; made running, shaken up approaching final 1f, edged right, kept on well, driven out; he's a credit to his trainer and is sure to continue giving a good account.

GOLDREAM winner of the King's Stand and Abbaye last season, shaped as if retaining all his ability 4 months on from when last seen in Meydan (has missed a couple of engagements due to unsuitable ground in the meantime), right in the mix with some race-fit rivals and sure to be a major player in the top 5f races for the rest of the season; prominent, travelled well, effort under 2f out, challenged final 1f, ran on.

EASTON ANGEL (IRE) looked well at home out of listed company for the first time this term and shaped well, not stretching it to say she'd have gone close had the race developed slightly differently; held up, travelled fluently, still bit to do and not clearest run under 2f out, headway entering final 1f, finished with a flourish; she'll make her presence felt in the Nunthorpe.

MARSHA (IRE) wasn't disgraced without quite matching her York form (when ahead of Easton Angel), maybe found wanting for bit of know-how in the best race she's ever contested, also on a different type of track to previously this term, and the big impression she's created up to now remains very much intact; mid-division, every chance when switched approaching final 1f, kept on.

PEARL SECRET returned to form after 6 weeks off and more than anything else was unlucky not to finish closer, probably back in the sort of nick that saw him win the Temple and finish fourth in the King's Stand in 2015; held up, travelled smoothly, headway when hampered entering final 1f, forced to switch, finished with running left.

COTAI GLORY back down in trip, again ran below his King's Stand form, though he'd have been a bit closer but for late trouble; prominent, ridden 2f out, hampered entering final 1f, faded.

FINSBURY SQUARE (IRE) wasn't disgraced, as much as anything not good enough, though his position towards the near side wasn't ideal; mid-division, headway 2f out, not quicken.

KACHY again ran below form, already done for by the time interference finished him off; close up, effort under 2f out, short of room entering final 1f, weakened.

GOKEN (FR) is better judged on previous form, failing to get the same sort of cover that'd seemed to suit him the last twice; mid-division, ridden 2f out, made no impression.

MOVE IN TIME third in this last year, underlined that his powers are on the wane; mid-division, ridden 2f out, beaten final 1f.

SPIRIT QUARTZ (IRE) again ran below form; close up, ridden 2f out, weakening when short of room entering final 1f.

JUNGLE CAT (IRE) back down in trip, was well held, not ideally placed and never any threat; in rear, struggling 2f out.

LINE OF REASON (IRE) is best not judged on this run, likely to have been a lot closer but for meeting trouble; held up, headway when no room 1f out, not recover.

AJAYA in first-time cheekpieces after 9 weeks off, is yet to prove that he's trained on but can't be judged on this run, trying to go it alone on the stand rail and never on terms.

DIVINE (IRE) back down in trip, was well held having played up in the stalls; in rear, beaten long way out.
