has immediately started to deliver on his abundant promise as a novice since chasing has been shelved, taking the rise back up in grade in his stride, getting 6 lb from the beaten favourite and probably better equipped to cope with this C&D away from bad ground but impressive even so, easing into contention out wide entering the straight and soon in command once quickening to the front 2 out, likely to have won by length or so further still had his effort been delayed even a little longer; he's one to bear in mind for the Aintree Hurdle.
waited with, smooth headway home turn, quickened to lead 2 out, in command run-in, kept up to work

didn't have the clear-cut chance the betting indicated conceding 6 lb to a very smart and improving winner but nor did he seem his usual sharp self, perhaps linked to the idiosyncratic track as well as a potential lack of sharpness following 8 weeks off, dropping back further in trip a possible excuse, too; he raced close up but hit the fourth and sixth and was under pressure 3 out, sticking in there until the next before the winner sprinted away; he's very much the type to bounce back next time, which could coincide with a rematch off level weights with Brewin'upastorm at Aintree.
chased leader, mistakes 4th, 6th, ridden back straight, chased leader from 3 out, one paced from next

was found out in better company against males as her winning run came to an end, though she still confirmed the improvement she'd shown at Warwick all the same, a very useful mare all of a sudden; forced pace, not always fluent, quickened home turn, headed 2 out, one paced.

did more to highlight he isn't any better than this nowadays, a breathing operation in the 8 weeks since Kempton making no discernible difference; in touch, short of room briefly end of back straight, ridden entering straight, left behind gradually.

shaped as if retaining ability back over hurdles after 12 months off, though his stable's ongoing struggles - plus the length of his absence - suggest he's no banker to go the right way; held up, jumped left first, shaken up after 3 out, outpaced home turn, kept on again gradually late on.

ran poorly back over timber, and it isn't as though his 2 runs over fences this winter could be mentioned in the same breath as his best hurdles form; tracked pace, outpaced 3 out, behind when awkward next.

All 6 ran. Hurdles: 10. Race Distance Adjustment: +12 yds

Winning Owner: Mrs Barbara Hester

Time: 4m 51.8s Closing Sectional: (4.30f): 64.40s (101.1%)

Overrounds: Industry SP 111%, Betfair SP 99.5%

A less established field than usual made for a more interesting National Spirit, certainly compared to last season's hotchpotch, the beaten favourite's SP not to be used as a stick with which to beat the form at all, given he was giving weight to a very smart rival who has really got his act back together, the improving mare back in third responsible for a pace that ensured a fair examination.

BREWIN'UPASTORM (IRE) has immediately started to deliver on his abundant promise as a novice since chasing has been shelved, taking the rise back up in grade in his stride, getting 6 lb from the beaten favourite and probably better equipped to cope with this C&D away from bad ground but impressive even so, easing into contention out wide entering the straight and soon in command once quickening to the front 2 out, likely to have won by length or so further still had his effort been delayed even a little longer; he's one to bear in mind for the Aintree Hurdle.
