went with more zest - in line with market strength - after 12 weeks off as he took a clear step back in the right direction from his reduced mark, returned to a long distance but probably finding the sharp track negating it to some extent; jumped more fluently than usual held up, crept closer early final circuit, shaken up before 3 out, not quicken, stayed on again straight, went second flat.

typically gave it a good go, showing attributes that ought to see him go even closer back down in class next time; forced pace, jumped well, led until 2 out, left behind by winner soon after.

probably needed the run after 5 months off, though he'd run his first poor race at this track when last seen (Fakenham form figures of 3221 prior to that, including narrow defeat in this race in 2023); in touch, left second halfway, outpaced from 4 out.

The emphasis on jumping - caused by having so many fences to clear - probably had a bigger say than the accent on stamina over this marathon distance, certainly not the slog many races at extreme trips can become, which ensured 3 of them were still going with purpose on the final circuit and another wasn't a lost cause when crashing out.

TRINCOMALEE benefited as long since expected from the step up to an extreme trip as he capitalised on the drop in grade after 9 weeks off, things coming much easier to him under these different circumstances; waited with, went with enthusiasm, chased leader seventeenth, closing when not fluent 3 out, led next, in control when rider dropped whip home turn, clear when hit last.
