peaked at this meeting for the second year in a row after pushing Jade de Grugy close in the Grade 1 mares novice in 2024, running against the opposite sex for the first time yet lowering their colours with some authority in taking her record over fences to 3-3 after 9 weeks off, suddenly looking the standout mare on the chasing scene not long removed from another humdrum edition of the Mrs Paddy Power at Cheltenham; left second when her stablemate exited at the third, she closed in on the other one 3 out, quickened to lead between last 2 and soon recovered after jumping left at the last, well top at the line, though many others have done similar to Firefox this season and emulating even a fraction of recent winning stablemates in this - Al Boum Photo and Galopin des Champs - still feels fanciful.

is a smart novice even if he has only a chasing debut win to show for it, though his proximity does rather fix the level of this following his sixth from a BHA mark of 150 in the Golden Miller; waited with, took closer order 4 out, ridden from next, disputed second at the last, stayed on.

dented his reputation even if time - and he doesn't have bags of it aged 9 - shows he's best going the other way around over fences, sent off the shortest of the Mullins trio yet put in his place by the one from that group who remained and unable to hold second from a rival whose limitations have been exposed by some of the better novices; chased leader, jumped left, left in front third but began to hang left from early final circuit, reduced advantage home turn, headed soon after 2 out, held last.

was probably rusty after a break that meant he'd missed both of Britain's premier spring fixtures, easy to back and making no impression.

An end-of-season staging post for Willie Mullins' 2 Cheltenham Gold Cup winners again went the way of the all-conquering yard, even though one of his trio was out of things early and the shortest-priced of them will be 10 next year, which allied with the runner-up having been held in a handicap the time before suggests this renewal will be doing very well to recreate the highs of those big names on the recent roll of honour.

SPINDLEBERRY (IRE) peaked at this meeting for the second year in a row after pushing Jade de Grugy close in the Grade 1 mares novice in 2024, running against the opposite sex for the first time yet lowering their colours with some authority in taking her record over fences to 3-3 after 9 weeks off, suddenly looking the standout mare on the chasing scene not long removed from another humdrum edition of the Mrs Paddy Power at Cheltenham; left second when her stablemate exited at the third, she closed in on the other one 3 out, quickened to lead between last 2 and soon recovered after jumping left at the last, well top at the line, though many others have done similar to Firefox this season and emulating even a fraction of recent winning stablemates in this - Al Boum Photo and Galopin des Champs - still feels fanciful.
