who had landed a regional 'National' much earlier in the season, had done little to suggest he was capable of winning a race as competitive as this one, but he was fitted with cheekpieces and hiked in trip after 6 months off and caused a major turn-up, albeit having enjoyed the run of things to a large extent; soon led, went with zest, ridden from 2 out, stayed on well; he had plenty go in his favour here and it remains to be seen whether he's able to back this up, though it's doubtful whether connections will care, his name now very much part of racing history.

A red-hot renewal of Ireland’s most prestigious steeplechase, but one which produced a result so unexpected that it made Mon Mome’s 2009 Grand National victory look entirely predictable, Freewheelin Dylan posting an improved performance from out of the blue to see off a trio of smart novices and enter Irish racing folklore as the longest-priced winner of the race since its inaugural running in 1870; the pace was fair, though a prominent position clearly proved beneficial, the first 4 always within in the first half-dozen runners, whilst those held up made little to no impact.

FREEWHEELIN DYLAN (IRE) who had landed a regional 'National' much earlier in the season, had done little to suggest he was capable of winning a race as competitive as this one, but he was fitted with cheekpieces and hiked in trip after 6 months off and caused a major turn-up, albeit having enjoyed the run of things to a large extent; soon led, went with zest, ridden from 2 out, stayed on well; he had plenty go in his favour here and it remains to be seen whether he's able to back this up, though it's doubtful whether connections will care, his name now very much part of racing history.

RUN WILD FRED (IRE) ran another stormer after 10 weeks off, taking the step up in trip in his stride and just failing to overcome an experienced sort producing a big career best; chased leaders, jumped well in main, travelled better than usual, challenged from 3 out, kept on; he'll remain of interest in races of this nature, looking an ideal candidate for the Aintree Grand National next season.

ENJOY D'ALLEN (FR) improved further in first-time blinkers, confirming himself a smart staying chaser, acknowledging he was better placed than most the way things unfolded; chased leaders, ridden home turn, kept on.

LATEST EXHIBITION (IRE) was sent off a well-supported favourite on the back of some strong novice form and again ran well in first-time cheekpieces after 8 weeks off, seeing out the longer trip rather than improving for it, albeit having taken a slightly wider route than the trio that beat him; in touch, jumped soundly in main, challenged from 3 out, kept on.

COKO BEACH (FR) ran respectably returned to handicap company, just running out of steam late on; close up, ridden from 3 out, no extra approaching last.

SCOIR MEAR (IRE) was unconsidered in the betting but shaped as if still in good form; led briefly early, settled in touch, ridden from 4 out, plugged on.

COURT MAID (IRE) ran to a similar level to last time after 4 months off, that nothing like enough as it turned out; mid-field, lost place before 5 out, took closer order again 4 out, ridden out wide home turn, effort flattened out.

OPPOSITES ATTRACT (IRE) upped in trip, wasn't at his best and posted zero win threat; mid-division, lost place sixteenth, plugged on again straight.

AGUSTA GOLD (IRE) was well supported and has to be afforded another chance for this yard (formerly with Ms Margaret Mullins), lacking her customary strong finish after 10 weeks off; mid-field (wider than most), untidy ninth, not fluent nineteenth, ridden from 3 out, weakened.

HOME BY THE LEE (IRE) a smart novice chaser, had beaten Enjoy d'Allen on his previous start but found this totally different scenario too big a mountain to climb, the writing on the wall from an early stage; in rear, not always fluent, merely passed beaten horses.

BRAHMA BULL (IRE) didn't get home over the longer trip after 10 weeks off; mid-field, mistake nineteenth, brief headway approaching 4 out, weakening when not fluent 3 out.

SNUGSBOROUGH BENNY (IRE) back over fences (also back in cheekpieces), had finished fourth to Burrows Saint in the 2019 renewal but never really looked at ease on this occasion and was soon done with once the tempo lifted; waited with, took closer order early final circuit, lost place when slow 5 out, struggling from next.

MORTAL (IRE) showed up well for a long way but didn't last out over the longer trip having been ridden far more positively than is often the case; chased leaders until 3 out, weakened.

FITZHENRY (IRE) wasn't seen to best effect and is best not judged too harshly on this run; waited with, headway from eighteenth, ridden from 4 out, held when not fluent 2 out, left poorly placed.

ATLANTIC SHORE (IRE) has had a fine season but found this way too competitive, a late error merely compounding matters; mid-field, ridden 4 out, held when bad mistake 3 out.

ESPANITO BELLO (FR) had close form ties with Coko Beach on their Ten Up showing but failed to stay this longer trip on handicap debut; mid-field, ridden from 4 out, weakened.

BRACE YOURSELF (IRE) had run well over C&D when last seen but a switch to more patient tactics 4 months on clearly backfired; raced off the pace, driven before 5 out, tailed off.

DISCORDANTLY (IRE) turned in a lacklustre display; mid-division, lost place when not fluent seventeenth, struggling next, pulled up 4 out.

DRAGON D'ESTRUVAL (FR) again showed little after 9 weeks off; raced off the pace, struggling badly sixteenth, pulled up 4 out.

ESCARIA TEN (FR) wasn't anywhere near his best in first-time cheekpieces and is better judged on previous form, the race presumably just coming too soon after his big Cheltenham effort; held up, clouted eighteenth, headway when not fluent 5 out, ridden from next, behind when pulled up 3 out; remains open to improvement.

EUROBOT had quickly developed into a useful novice this season, but he got no further than the first on his first try at a marathon trip.

JERRYSBACK (IRE) ran no sort of race; raced off the pace, labouring eighteenth, pulled up 4 out.

MOYHENNA (IRE) has something of an all-or-nothing profile and just wasn't on a going day, her jumping not holding up at all; raced off the pace (wider than most), jumped none too fluently, tailed off when pulled up 3 out.

ROBIN DE CARLOW attracted support upped markedly in trip, but he has clearly had his problems and suffered another injury after 18 months off; mid-division, went wrong after twelfth.

SALSARETTA (FR) upped markedly in trip, has already proven she retains all of her ability, but she was faced with an altogether different test on this occasion and just didn't see it out; mid-field, not always fluent, lost place before 4 out, behind when pulled up 3 out.

TOP MOON (FR) had plenty to prove upped so markedly in trip and, refitted with a tongue tie, had been pulled up by 4 out.
