stepped up considerably on the form of his chasing debut and already looks better over fences than hurdles, though he was arguably fortunate to maintain his unbeaten record in this sphere given the ominous ease with which Samcro appeared to be travelling prior to his departure; close up, went with enthusiasm, jumped boldy, led from fourth, pressed on from 5 out, joined when left clear 2 out, ridden out; an exuberant and exciting jumper, he’s likely to prove just as effective back at 2m in this sphere and looks sure to take high rank amongst this season’s novice chasers.

ran to just a similar level to last time, though retains the potential for better still, an error just as things were heating up costing him plenty of ground; held up, headway when bad mistake 4 out, left in a place 2 out, plugged on.

set the standard on his Irish National victory, though looked rusty back down markedly in trip after 7 months off; led until fourth, remained prominent, lost place when mistake ninth, left behind from 3 out, left second 2 out, no extra.

is still the top-class prospect he looked as a novice hurdler if this performance is anything to go by, unable to match the winner’s spectacular round of jumping but still tanking when coming down late on; never far away, travelled well, chased leader from ninth, upsides and still on the bridle when unseated 2 out; he remains open to significant improvement in this sphere and will remain of plenty of interest in any company.

An intriguing renewal of this Grade 1 novice chase that was building to a crescendo only for Samcro to fall having just joined the bold-jumping Fakir d’Oudaries at the second last, the pair having drawn a long way clear from 3 out.
