returned to form from out of the blue as he opened his account for the season, well suited by the firm emphasis on stamina, while a mark that had fallen as low as it's ever been over fences certainly helped; mid-field, took keen hold, outpaced after 5 out, not clear run entering straight, headway next, went second 2 out, led when not fluent last, stayed on well; he'll be easy enough to take on next time despite retaining handicapping scope on his best form.

confirmed his return to form, shaping encouragingly in a race that just pushed his stamina beyond its limit; chased leader, jumped right, travelled well, led 4 out, headed approaching last, no extra run-in; he's an infrequent winner, but looks up to defying this sort of mark.
