back down in trip and in first-time cheekpieces, got off the mark in this sphere at the second time of asking but essentially landed on a very weak race and didn't convince even in victory, meaning he'll be one to oppose next time; led, joined fifth, left in front again seventh, clear when awkward 4 out, barely survived bad mistake 2 out, ridden before last, carried head awkwardly flat, ridden out.

useful over hurdles but down the field in the Fred Winter on his only other start in Britain (raced solely in France otherwise), ran below that level sent chasing, entitled to have neeed the run after 4 months off and not having a hard race, though equally unable to pose a threat to a winner that was there for the taking; held up, untidy first and not always fluent after, left third seventh, went second end of back straight, left behind by winner from 4 out, plugged on

a useful novice hurdler last season (though ended it on a low), had since changed hands (£75,000) and is built for chasing but ran no sort of race after 9 months off and has questions to answer now; in touch, left second seventh, pushed along approaching end of back straight, stopped quickly.

Non Runners: GOLDEN WHISKY (IRE). Fences: 11. Race Distance Adjustment: -16 yds

Winning Owner: Colin Peake & Julie Slater

Time: 4m 56.1s Closing Sectional: (2.20f): 38.90s (87.1%)

All fences in the back straight were omitted due to the state of the ground

The omission of all the fences in the back straight already made for an unsatisfactory race and variously unconvincing efforts from all 4 participants means it has the look of very weak form for a race of its type.

BREAKING WAVES (IRE) back down in trip and in first-time cheekpieces, got off the mark in this sphere at the second time of asking but essentially landed on a very weak race and didn't convince even in victory, meaning he'll be one to oppose next time; led, joined fifth, left in front again seventh, clear when awkward 4 out, barely survived bad mistake 2 out, ridden before last, carried head awkwardly flat, ridden out.
