without the headgear this time, appreciated the return to a right-handed track and proved at least as good as ever to come out on top; patiently ridden, not always fluent, crept closer soon after sixth, outpaced fourteenth, rallied approaching 4 out, jumped right straight but challenged last, stayed on to lead final 100 yds, suited by the way the race developed; recent record suggests he is uncertain to back this up.

returned to form back over fences and shaped well to boot, making his effort earlier than ideal (also not helped by jockey dropping whip on home turn) and being picked off close home; went prominent third, led approaching 4 out, tackled last, headed final 100 yds; has his quirks, his jumping so often an issue in this sphere, but he is favourably handicapped and well worth another chance over this sort of trip.

after 5 months off, shaped better than the bare result; waited with, headway tenth, ridden approaching 5 out, faded from next, did too much too soon; is campaigned sporadically in Britain, mainly plying his trade in cross country events on the continent, but on this evidence still has something to offer over regulation fences.

A fair long-distance handicap and one in which the emphasis was firmly on stamina, the leaders upping the tempo a long way out and paying for those exertions late on, Upham Atom the one to capitalise, the effort of the runner-up worth marking up.

UPHAM ATOM without the headgear this time, appreciated the return to a right-handed track and proved at least as good as ever to come out on top; patiently ridden, not always fluent, crept closer soon after sixth, outpaced fourteenth, rallied approaching 4 out, jumped right straight but challenged last, stayed on to lead final 100 yds, suited by the way the race developed; recent record suggests he is uncertain to back this up.
