has been crying out for a return to shorter and, rather generously dropped 3 lb after failing to stay on his previous start, got off the mark for the season with nothing to spare; blundered first but in touch, pushed along after 4 out, jumped on 2 out, threatened again run-in, held on gamely; he's a very smart chaser with entries in the Queen Mother and Ryanair at Cheltenham but, knowing his trainer, will probably be aimed at more realistic targets other than at the Festival.

ran a cracker back in a handicap, this arguably the best effort of his career in fact, especially as he made quite a bad error before halfway and wasn't allowed things his own way up front, either; pressed leader, blundered fifth, went on 4 out, headed 2 out, rallied, upsides again run-in, held final 50 yds.

has yet to run a bad race at Doncaster and, in form terms, ran as well as when chasing home Ibleo from the same mark in the corresponding race 12 months earlier; in touch, pushed along after 4 out, switched approaching last, stayed on.

ran up to his best, doing well to stick in there considering he wasn't given an easy time of it up front, harried by Before Midnight from a long way out; made running, headed 4 out, stuck to task.

has started to slip in the weights and, though he ran creditably after 9 weeks off, the feeling is that connections have other days in mind for him, quite possibly in the spring; patiently ridden, pushed along after 4 out, never landed a blow, his rider seemingly reluctant to go for the whip.

wasn't done any favours when Moonlighter came down early but, equally, it'd be wrong to suggest that was behind a below-par effort, his finishing effort again rather weak just a fortnight after a toughish race at Wetherby; raced off the pace, hampered first, pushed along after 4 out, weakened approaching 2 out.
