was dropping into veterans company for the first time and found it liberating, very much on a going day with forcing tactics readopted, an excellent round of jumping putting pressure on his rivals from a long way out; made all, jumped well, pushed along after 3 out, not fluent next, in command last.

is now on a career-high mark and again gave his running without it being quite good enough, catching the winner very much on a going day; prominent, chased leader after 5 out, kept on; he's been notably unfortunate not to have won a handicap chase as yet.

was making his debut in veterans company and ran better than on his last 2 starts after 11 weeks off, though one win in 14 handicap starts over fences tells us he's fairly easy to oppose; prominent, slow first, pushed along after twelfth, one paced straight.

was in a change of headgear and, as on his previous start, left the impression he's plenty high enough in the weights; close up, not fluent eighth, ridden after thirteenth, hit 5 out, outpaced before next, stayed on again late on.

was surprisingly easy to back dropping into a veterans handicap and ran no sort of race; raced off the pace, lost place ninth, lost touch eleventh, his rider quicker than others to accept the situation; he used to wear headgear most of the time when trained in Ireland and it's maybe time it's restored.
off pace, lost place 9th, lost touch 11th

A strongly-run veterans handicap, the all-the-way winner having most out of their comfort zone a long way from home and the form probably stronger than is often seen in this type of race, lots of the field having never dipped into such company previously.

BEAU BAY (FR) was dropping into veterans company for the first time and found it liberating, very much on a going day with forcing tactics readopted, an excellent round of jumping putting pressure on his rivals from a long way out; made all, jumped well, pushed along after 3 out, not fluent next, in command last.

AMI DESBOIS (FR) is now on a career-high mark and again gave his running without it being quite good enough, catching the winner very much on a going day; prominent, chased leader after 5 out, kept on; he's been notably unfortunate not to have won a handicap chase as yet.

ACTIVIAL (FR) after 4 months off, was ridden more patiently than usual and completed for just the second time in his last 5 starts, this more his sort of level these days; in rear, not fluent early, took closer order seventh, ridden after 5 out, kept on.

WEST APPROACH was making his debut in veterans company and ran better than on his last 2 starts after 11 weeks off, though one win in 14 handicap starts over fences tells us he's fairly easy to oppose; prominent, slow first, pushed along after twelfth, one paced straight.

ROCKY'S TREASURE (IRE) was in a change of headgear and, as on his previous start, left the impression he's plenty high enough in the weights; close up, not fluent eighth, ridden after thirteenth, hit 5 out, outpaced before next, stayed on again late on.

RED INFANTRY (IRE) showed some ability remains but failed to beat a rival in the end and seemed to find things happening plenty quick enough; mid-field, lost place seventh, labouring from twelfth, rallied approaching straight, no further impression.

FLYING ANGEL (IRE) ran poorly after 10 weeks off and is proving more miss than hit these days; mid-field, lost place sixth, never going well after.

GUITAR PETE (IRE) was surprisingly easy to back dropping into a veterans handicap and ran no sort of race; raced off the pace, lost place ninth, lost touch eleventh, his rider quicker than others to accept the situation; he used to wear headgear most of the time when trained in Ireland and it's maybe time it's restored.
