left his chasing debut form behind after 7 weeks off, able to dominate this lesser maiden field compared to Kempton; soon led, jumped sketchily, headed when not fluent again eighth, jumped on again tenth, made rest, in control when blundered last 2, ridden out; he'll be opposable back in something more competitive next time, despite his obvious ability.

fairly useful over hurdles, shaped promisingly switched to fences after 9 months off, the only one of those held up to cut into the winner's advantage; patiently ridden, jumped soundly, smooth headway before 5 out, chased leader from 3 out, ran on; sure to progress and win races in this sphere, with an unchanged BHA mark (currently 125) for a novice handicap an extremely appealing potential avenue.

fairly useful over hurdles in France for Francois-Marie Cottin, ran to a similar level sent chasing after 21 months off, still sufficiently youthful to make up for lost time if standing training for all he's no star; mid-division, took closer order 5 out, switched before 3 out, kept on until well inside final 1f, no extra then.

in first-time cheekpieces, lasted much longer than first time up over fences but still wasn't exactly robust under pressure; jumped erratically, led early, pressed leader after, led again eighth, headed again tenth, ridden straight, hung left, carried head bit awkwardly, dropped away.

proved a let-down based on his chasing form, let alone his hurdling level; tracked pace but jumped sketchily and never going well from ninth, struggling from eleventh.

fairly useful over hurdles, probably needed the run sent chasing on first outing since leaving W. P. Mullins after 9 months off; patiently ridden, shaken up after 5 out, lost touch straight.

All 8 ran. Fences: 15.

Winning Owner: Mr N T Griffith & H M Haddock

Time: 5m 25.8s Closing Sectional: (3.00f): 48.00s (99.2%)

Not so strong a maiden as might have been expected given the trainers represented, and nothing could get to the enigmatic winner once he'd lifted the pace 4 out, most of the field - The Big Bite included - hardly impressing with their jumping on the way around.

THE BIG BITE (IRE) left his chasing debut form behind after 7 weeks off, able to dominate this lesser maiden field compared to Kempton; soon led, jumped sketchily, headed when not fluent again eighth, jumped on again tenth, made rest, in control when blundered last 2, ridden out; he'll be opposable back in something more competitive next time, despite his obvious ability.

SENIOR CITIZEN fairly useful over hurdles, shaped promisingly switched to fences after 9 months off, the only one of those held up to cut into the winner's advantage; patiently ridden, jumped soundly, smooth headway before 5 out, chased leader from 3 out, ran on; sure to progress and win races in this sphere, with an unchanged BHA mark (currently 125) for a novice handicap an extremely appealing potential avenue.

STAY HUMBLE (IRE) fairly useful over hurdles, probably needed the run sent chasing on first outing since leaving W. P. Mullins after 9 months off; patiently ridden, shaken up after 5 out, lost touch straight.

GARRETTSTOWN (IRE) continues to underachieve compared to his hurdles level, very much heading towards disappointment territory; patiently ridden, jumped ponderously, struggling before 4 out.
