's form had looked to have levelled off coming into this, but managed to put it all together to produce a career best, gaining a rather unexpected Group 1 success as a consequence; made running against near side rail, tackled over 1f out, edged ahead again well inside final 1f, dug deep under pressure; he holds several entries in the coming months, but needs to prove this wasn't a flash in the pan, and the suspicion is that he'll prove vulnerable at the very top level going forward.

progressed again, getting a clear run this time and coming out best of those representing the Railway Stakes form, just unable to master a more experienced rival against the rail; chased leaders, travelled fluently, disputed lead over 1f out, no extra close home; will continue to give a good account, the National Stakes reportedly the aim for him now.

ran to a similar level as when successful in the Railway Stakes, though wasn't able to confirm form with Dr Zempf on this occasion, looking typically willing in the finish but just not good enough on the day; chased leader, pushed along 2f out, every chance inside final 1f, no extra.

matched his previous form despite again not been seen to best effect, breaking on terms but still left plenty to do under his usual waiting ride, having to use his turn of foot to just get himself into contention and then having nothing left for the finish; held up, forced wide from halfway, good headway approaching final 1f, every chance there but faded late on.

wasn't disgraced, but was unable to build on what had been an encouraging effort here last time, and didn't have any excuses; mid-field, ridden when switched 2f out, not quicken.

Not a vintage renewal of this Group 1, Ebro River lacking anything like the potential of recent winners, and those in behind look to have found their level for now, too.
