This tends to be nothing more than a useful handicap and that was certainly the case again, though the trio that fought it out are proving to be steadily progressive staying chasers, the winner just holding on after failing to keep straight on the run-in.

SPHAGNUM (IRE) registered a third win over fences upped in trip, proving better than ever in the process; never far away, travelled well, not fluent eighth, jumped on 4 out, edged right after 2 out, carried head bit awkwardly, hung right again run-in, all out to hold on.

POSITIVE THINKER (IRE) back over fences, backed up his effort in the Leinster National last season, seeing out the longer trip thoroughly; prominent, lost place when not fluent 5 out, shaken up from 3 out, kept on well close home, just failed.

OUTSIDE THE DOOR (IRE) couldn't complete the hat-trick back over fences but produced a career best all the same; waited with, progress seventh, slow thirteenth, shaken up 4 out, not fluent 2 out, carried head bit awkwardly, stayed on.

BIG DEBATES (FR) caught the eye back over fences, faring much better than of late, finishing with a late flourish under his claimer given a belated first try at a marathon trip; held up, not fluent tenth, slow 4 out, shaken up before next, kept on well from last, nearest at the finish.

KING FERDINAND (IRE) in a higher grade than necessary, shaped as if back in form upped in trip; mid-field, travelled well, took closer order home turn, shaken up before 2 out, not quicken.

JUMPING JET (IRE) turned out again quickly, ran creditably on the figures once more, a sloppy round of jumping preventing her from making more of an impact; in rear, jumped tentatively early, some headway thirteenth, lost ground when mistake 5 out, rallied home turn, keeping on in fifth (but held) when bad mistake last; she was successful on her first try over a marathon trip at Downpatrick in April and is well worth persevering with in these type of events.

HAND OVER FIST (FR) shaped much better than the distance beaten suggests upped 3f in trip; led, went with enthusiasm, headed when pecked quite badly 4 out, ridden soon after 3 out, weakened from next; could easily resume progress back at around 3m next time.

MACGILONEY (IRE) back over fences, found run of good form coming to a halt; mid-field, went with little fluency, lost place fourth, tailed off early final circuit.

STREETS OF DOYEN (IRE) ran poorly; in touch, not fluent tenth, blundered 5 out, dropped away after next.

SO DES FLOS (FR) ran badly after 6 months off; handy, lost place circuit out, reminders before 5 out, dropped away before 4 out.
