confirmed return to form back over fences for the first time since falling in the 2018 Gold Cup, looking as good as ever, encouraging given he's had more than one big absence in recent seasons; disputed lead, jumped well, travelled strongly, pressed on circuit out, quickened clear after 2 out, impressive.

This would have been some clash were it taking place in 2017/18 but Death Duty isn't operating at the same level nowadays and was no match for Bachasson, who seems to retain all of his old ability.

BACHASSON (FR) confirmed return to form back over fences for the first time since falling in the 2018 Gold Cup, looking as good as ever, encouraging given he's had more than one big absence in recent seasons; disputed lead, jumped well, travelled strongly, pressed on circuit out, quickened clear after 2 out, impressive.

DEATH DUTY (IRE) could run to only a similar level as last time despite being back in calmer waters and seemingly isn't half the chaser he was as a novice; close up, ridden home turn, left behind by winner after 2 out.

MORTAL (IRE) confirmed return to form, though wahe s seemingly ridden to get second and couldn't manage even that; in touch, took keen hold, not fully asked for effort when lost ground home turn, one paced.

DISCORDANTLY (IRE) was found out in better company than last time, unable to match strides with Bachasson for long; pressed leader, not always fluent, lost ground before sixth, held after ninth.
