A more run-of-the-mill renewal of a Derby trial that has featured several wide-margin winners in recent seasons, the no-hoper in seventh not beaten far enough to take a high view of the form, though the winner is a likeable type who was powering along late having taken over from the pair that set the gallop inside the final 1f.

LAMBOURN (IRE) paid a compliment to his Ballysax conqueror Delacroix but equally enhanced his own reputation, clearly relishing the longer trip and leaving the impression he'll be even better suited by a more galloping test at it and indeed even further later on, striking as the type to run well in the Derby next month with further improvement on the cards, even if he does prove vulnerable to classier types; prominent, shaken up 4f out, led final 1f, stayed on strongly.

LAZY GRIFF (GER) successful in a French Group 3 on his final 2-y-o outing, is physically the type to make an even better 3-y-o and immediately proved the point back from 8 months off, no surprise the longer trip suited considering his sire won a Melbourne Cup; pressed leader, travelled fluently, led over 1f out, headed final 1f, no extra late on.

CONVERGENT (IRE) gave an excellent account stepping out of minor company, still a shade green but effective at the new trip and likely to go well again if kept away from the very best; soon led, not settle fully, headed over 1f out, one paced.

PINHOLE was still green and didn't really find things going his way stepping out of minor company after 5 months off; held up, bit short of room and shaken up 2f out, made little impression; he should stay this far and remains with potential.

FURTHUR (IRE) wasn't seen to best effect courtesy of a wide trip; held up, effort out wide over 2f out, faded; he shouldn't have done any harm to a fair-looking mark of 87.

THRICE (IRE) has the pedigree to make a 3-yo at this trip but was below form after 7 months off; in touch, ridden 3f out, weakened over 1f out.

FAIRE LA NOUBA (IRE) was out of his depth and probably flattered in seeming to run to a fairly useful level up in trip after 8 months off; steadied at the start, struggling 3f out.

SQUARE D'ALBONI (FR) ran poorly after 6 months off, well below the form that saw him win a French listed race in the mud on his final 2-y-o outing; in touch, not settle fully, off pace over 3f out, beaten straight; he's not sure on pedigree to relish this sort of trip.
