was back to looking enthusiastic rather than headstrong with a hood refitted and proved at least as good as ever dropped to listed level for the first time, whizzing around these sharp bends very much playing to his strengths; soon led, went with enthusiasm, shaken up entering straight, edged right final 1f, kept on.

under a penalty, ran at least as well in defeat as when winning the time before back down in trip, though his failure to keep straight under pressure prevented him from making more of a race of it with the winner; handy, shaken up entering straight, hung badly left but kept on.

faced a stiff task in this grade; awkward leaving stalls, in rear, took keen hold, forced to switch under 2f out, never dangerous; it's still early days in her career admittedly, but her strong travelling lends itself well to all-weather racing and it's likely she'll be of more interest when returned to a synthetic surface (well on top of a subsequent winner at Lingfield in June).

Borderline smart efforts from the first 2 in this listed contest, Quinault probably improving on his 3-y-o form to open his account for the season.

QUINAULT (GER) was back to looking enthusiastic rather than headstrong with a hood refitted and proved at least as good as ever dropped to listed level for the first time, whizzing around these sharp bends very much playing to his strengths; soon led, went with enthusiasm, shaken up entering straight, edged right final 1f, kept on.

AL SHABAB STORM under a penalty, ran at least as well in defeat as when winning the time before back down in trip, though his failure to keep straight under pressure prevented him from making more of a race of it with the winner; handy, shaken up entering straight, hung badly left but kept on.

FUNNY STORY wasted no time getting back to form returned to listed company; dwelt, in rear, hampered slightly and bumped rival after 1f, shaken up 2f out, progress over 1f out, kept on.

RUSSET GOLD ran about as well as could have been expected upped in grade; in touch, ridden over 2f out, kept on final 1f.

EMARAATY ANA after a further 7 weeks off, fared no better back down appreciably in class; close up, pushed along 2f out, weakened final 1f.

QUEEN'S GUARD faced a stiff task in this grade; awkward leaving stalls, in rear, took keen hold, forced to switch under 2f out, never dangerous; it's still early days in her career admittedly, but her strong travelling lends itself well to all-weather racing and it's likely she'll be of more interest when returned to a synthetic surface (well on top of a subsequent winner at Lingfield in June).

FLAMING RIB (IRE) who'd won his previous 2 starts at this track, arrived out of form but is best not judged on this run; worst of draw, raced wide, mid-field, hampered after 1f, pushed along over 2f out, forced wide entering straight, no extra approaching final 1f.
