who gave some trouble loading, followed up from Newbury with another impressive success and looked something out of the ordinary, quickly eroding the deficit after conceding first run and taking his form to a smart level, looking a leading contender for the Derby only for tragedy to strike after crossing the line; in touch, travelled well, pushed along entering straight but 3 lengths down, quickened to lead entering final 1f, found plenty but broke down after line and suffered fatal injury.

upped further in trip, improved another sizeable amount after 6 weeks off and shaped well, unlucky to bump into one that seemed destined for much better things, but hammering the remainder, the switch to front-running tactics seeming to suit under a well-judged ride; made running, pressed on 4f out, went clear entering straight, ran green and briefly collided with rail over 1f out, headed entering final 1f, left behind by winner final 100 yds; he could be one for the King Edward VII at Royal Ascot, with even further progress on the cards.

on firmer ground than previously, hails from a yard which has farmed this race in recent times but was conceding match fitness to the first 2 and shaped as if better for the run after 7 months off; handy, took strong hold, pushed along over 2f out, one paced, not unduly punished; should stay at least this far and remains open to improvement, no surprise were he to get much closer to stablemate Agenda should they meet again next time.

ran as well as could be expected upped further in trip/back under less testing conditions, though did show why connections have already reached for headgear; pressed leader, off the bridle long way out, weakened straight, carried head bit awkwardly.

had looked a good prospect when narrowly beating the winner on all-weather 6 weeks earlier but underperformed and is clearly better than he could show here, still green and the track seeming not to suit at all; missed the break, raced off the pace, not settle fully, ridden over 2f out, never involved; the sadly ill-fated winner has done plenty to frank the form of his debut success, and Cadogan Place remains capable of better.

who sweated up beforehand, wasn't up to this better company just yet making turf debut, the idiosyncratic track perhaps not to his liking, still having a bit of maturing to do, too; dwelt, raced freely off the pace, lugged left entering straight, never dangerous.

A typically small-but-select field, all bar Golden West successful on their latest start and this renewal is certainly worth rating as an up-to-scratch one, a pair of recent wide-margin maiden winners pulling well clear of the standard-setting favourite, though it's a race that'll always be marred by the fatality of Hidden Law, who looked like a very exciting prospect only to break down when pulling up; a steady early gallop lifted gradually from halfway, the timefigure not bad at all in the circumstances.

HIDDEN LAW (IRE) who gave some trouble loading, followed up from Newbury with another impressive success and looked something out of the ordinary, quickly eroding the deficit after conceding first run and taking his form to a smart level, looking a leading contender for the Derby only for tragedy to strike after crossing the line; in touch, travelled well, pushed along entering straight but 3 lengths down, quickened to lead entering final 1f, found plenty but broke down after line and suffered fatal injury.
