made the most of a good opportunity, facing a less-progressive field compared to at Newbury and able to control things, too; broke fast in ragged start, made all, jumped fluently, went with enthusiasm, quickened from 3 out, in command run-in, closed down only late on as rider took things easy; tougher tasks await, such as in a Grand Annual or Red Rum.

isn't improving jumping-wise but is so in terms of form, powering through most of this for all there wasn't much behind as it turned out; in touch, typically made mistakes, travelled powerfully, chased leader 4 out, ridden soon after next, not quicken after last, closed down leader only late on; surely there's a lesser handicap around somewhere like Ludlow for him.

might have needed the run after 11 weeks off, though she faced a stiffer task as well, up another 3 lb and away from her own sex; waited with, typically took strong hold, took closer order before straight, shaken up after 5 out, effort before 2 out, no further impression.

looks to be being brought along gradually this season, and a return to Ayr (last win there, as a novice) in the spring may well be on the cards from his sliding mark; dropped out, left behind gradually straight, not unduly punished.

went with no encouragement with cheekpieces left off on his first outing since leaving Gordon Elliott after 6 months off; held up, ridden when carried head awkwardly end of back straight, dropped away quickly, something still not right either mentally and/or physically.

Only the front pair were at their best in an already thin handicap for the grade; the winner got the best of a messy start and set a steadier pace than is normal for a 2m chase.
