all but useful over hurdles (Grade 2 novice winner last autumn before the wheels fell off in the second half of the season), was strong in betting returned to handicap company after 7 months off and looked a cracking prospect for chasing as he made a successful debut in this sphere, surely a smart novice in the making; made running, jumped superbly, went with zest, pressed on 5 out, in control long way out; open to improvement as a chaser, he'll be worth a go in something better before long, acknowledging that the fast-track approach hasn't necessarily worked with him in previous seasons.

remains in good form but is inevitably set to find it tough against horses of the winner's ilk in useful handicaps this autumn, his jumping becoming ragged once that one started to turn the screw from the home turn; held up, travelled well, in touch circuit out, mistake twelfth, ridden when hit 5 out, untidy 2 out, no match for winner, not unduly punished.

shaped as if better for run, up at a trip he's yet to prove he wants after 5 months off; handy, not fluent tenth and eleventh (tended to jump right), left behind 5 out; he's got solid form to make him of interest from this mark, though arguably hasn't won the races he should've considering he's not far off useful and consistent on the whole.

faced a stiff task from out of the handicap and shaped as if still in good form, just in need of a return to calmer waters; held up, not fluent fifth, in touch circuit out, shaken up leaving back straight, left behind 5 out.

failed to come on for recent run, let down by attitude rather than jumping; in touch, lost place before eighth, never going well after, well beaten eleventh.

useful at best over hurdles but out of form for a good while, was well held sent chasing on first outing since leaving Donald McCain after 5 months off and has a bit to prove in general at present; in rear, jumped tentatively, took keen hold, well off pace from circuit out, made no impression.

An uncompetitive novice handicap as it turned out, though mainly because the winner was in a different league, unchallenged after going out in front at a good gallop.
