This wasn't a deep race for the money, though it might have been even weaker, the market dominated by a pair that had been due to contest the Becher Chase at Aintree the previous weekend, Chambard having also been declared for that - there's just too many races at this level for the number of horses around; the winner rallied in remarkable fashion, though it transpired the third, who traded at 1.28 in running, had finished lame.

KING TURGEON (FR) is thriving at present and completed the hat-trick, though to what extent he owed his win to the favourite's finishing lame is hard to know; led, mistake 4 out, pushed along, headed entering straight, hung left, rallied to lead again last, kept on well, ridden out; he'll presumably have Aintree in the spring on the agenda, the Topham the likely aim, given his current mark is well short of what would get him into the Grand National field.

OUR POWER (IRE) shaped as if retaining all his ability after over a year off, on a good mark if he can build on this (looked to have done plenty of work); tracked pace, shaken up 3 out, every chance when mistake next, one paced, went second again close home.

CHIANTI CLASSICO (IRE) might have overcome a rise in the weights had he not gone lame in the closing stages, after looking the most likely winner 2 out; tracked pace, travelled well, led entering straight, headed last, weakened final 1f, lame; may yet do better still.

JAVA POINT (IRE) wasn't disgraced from 2 lb out of the weights, though he looked an unlikely winner from a fair way out; in touch, went prominent ninth, lost place fourteenth, tailed off 3 out, plugged on.

THE NEWEST ONE (IRE) had plenty on from out of the handicap and ran respectably, though he was out of serious contention a long way from home; soon steadied, labouring fifteenth, mistake 4 out, plugged on.

BALLYGRIFINCOTTAGE (IRE) wasn't disgraced, though again he didn't produce much off the bridle, which is becoming a concern; held up, mistake first, smooth headway sixteenth, weakened after 3 out.

IZINO D'AIRY (FR) hadn't made the cut for the cross-country, where he might have had some sort of chance, but he had none in this, almost 3 stone out of the handicap; held up, mistakes fifteenth and sixteenth, weakened 4 out, tailed off when blundered next, pulled up.

CHAMBARD (FR) looked in need of the run and offered little after 9 months off; held up, not always fluent, lost touch circuit out, tailed off when pulled up 4 out.
