in first-time tongue strap, was an unknown quantity for his new yard as a hurdler and proved his mark a generous one, landing a gamble in a race run ideally for him, back at 2m, the potential for more to come under the right circumstances, no surprise to see him back for the County Hurdle or Coral Cup in the spring; in touch, shaken up after 3 out, good progress early in straight, led after last, kept on well.

ran well, needing no excuses, a rise of 8 lb for his win last time enough to stop his following up against such a dark one as the winner; held up, headway 3 out, ridden next, closing when not fluent last, not quicken, stayed on close home.

well supported, ran just respectably on handicap debut after 8 months off, still rather too keen for his own good, a good chance that fences will help in that regard; in rear, not settle fully, headway 2 out, ridden home turn, not quicken run-in.

making handicap debut off a stiff opening mark, shaped encouragingly after 7 weeks off, even if he couldn't repet the feat of making all of his stable-companion Coole Cody over fences the previous day; led, travelled well, headed 3 out, ridden home turn, weakened approaching last; he may yet have more to offer, with further yet to explore.

brought down at the last in the Betfair Hurdle on his only run since winning this last season, would have gone close to that form had he not again departed at the final flight, alongside the eventual sixth, but likely to have finished a bit ahead of him; mid-field, took keen hold, smooth headway 3 out, chased leaders shaken up early in straight, close up but held when fell last.

Non Runners: SEBASTOPOL (IRE), MILKWOOD (IRE), THYME WHITE (FR), PISGAH PIKE (IRE). Hurdles: 8. Race Distance Adjustment: +53 yds

Winning Owner: Mr P. Byrne

Time: 4m 11.6s Closing Sectional: (4.20f): 63.40s (100.2%)

A typically competitive renewal of one of the feature handicap hurdles of the season, despite significant non runners due to the ground, plenty having a chance after 2 out, the form looking really solid behind the well-backed winner, not a typical scorer in this race, switched back from fences but heavily backed and clearly a different proposition since joining this yard in the summer, the ban for not running on his merits on his first start for it a distant memory.

THE SHUNTER (IRE) in first-time tongue strap, was an unknown quantity for his new yard as a hurdler and proved his mark a generous one, landing a gamble in a race run ideally for him, back at 2m, the potential for more to come under the right circumstances, no surprise to see him back for the County Hurdle or Coral Cup in the spring; in touch, shaken up after 3 out, good progress early in straight, led after last, kept on well.

BALLYANDY ran another cracking race under top weight, showing a most willing attitude, but having no answer to the less exposed winner late on; chased leader, went with zest, led 3 out, ridden straight, headed after last, one paced.

TEGEREK (FR) ran well, needing no excuses, a rise of 8 lb for his win last time enough to stop his following up against such a dark one as the winner; held up, headway 3 out, ridden next, closing when not fluent last, not quicken, stayed on close home.

HUNTERS CALL (IRE) after 4 months off, ran up to his best, even if the way he travelled promised more than he delivered; raced wide, handy, travelled well, ridden early in straight, found little; he may well have a repeat bid in the valuable Ascot handicap in December on the agenda.

EDWARDSTONE well supported, ran just respectably on handicap debut after 8 months off, still rather too keen for his own good, a good chance that fences will help in that regard; in rear, not settle fully, headway 2 out, ridden home turn, not quicken run-in.

STRONG GLANCE wasn't in the same form as last time, though his attitude as much as the drop back in trip looked the problem; handy, travelled well, hampered approaching 2 out, ridden home turn, hung left, no extra, looked half-hearted.

SIR PSYCHO (IRE) was well held, going backwards from reappearance, despite the drop back to 2m; in touch, chased leaders after 3 out, weakened straight, hampered last.

TUDOR CITY (IRE) seemed totally unfancied and ran no sort of race after 8 weeks off; in rear, labouring before 3 out, tailed off.

COUNTISTER (FR) ran no sort of race and isn't worth a rating at the moment; held up, lost touch fifth, tailed off when pulled up next.
