is a reliable top-class performer and bagged the Festival win his record deserved, no progress required on form that already set the standard but showcasing all his best qualities, jumping/travelling well under a positive ride (led from eighth), outjumping A Plus Tard 2 out after that rival had briefly threatened to challenge then driven out as the runner-up tried to close after the last; he was devastating in the Melling Chase last year and another bold bid there seems all but assured.

has improved for more patient tactics/step up in trip and proved himself a borderline top-class chaser stepping back out of handicap company, creeping into it around the inner after 3 out, moving into second before the last, where a mistake checked his momentum briefly, then closing the gap to the winner from 2 lengths despite being forced to switch from off the rail, enough going wrong for him in the closing stages that connections will no doubt relish another crack at the winner at Aintree.
held up, chased leaders soon after 3 out, ridden after 2 out, hit last, forced to switch, ran on

was strong in the betting back up in trip at a track where he was so impressive in handicap company last season and ran his race without seeming to have any excuses, coming there to challenge before 2 out but one paced from the last; he's still a relative youngster and is sure to win plenty more good races.

never looked like repeating his 2019 win in this race, unable to get into the same rhythm up against these faster horses, losing the lead as early as the fifth and soon beaten once the leaders pressed on 3 out.

wasn't disgraced but hasn't gone on from last season's Arkle win, his jumping average at best, a Grade 1 win in open company beyond him on the evidence of this season; held up, hit fifth, mistake 4 out, ridden before 2 out, no further impression.

ran poorly in first-time blinkers after 11 weeks off, seemingly not the same force this season as when placed in this in 2019 and 2017; raced wide, close up, not fluent eighth, lost place before 5 out, struggling after next.
