back in a bigger field, got back on the up to go one better than when running Getaway Trump closest on his final start in the spring, this suiting him far better than Chepstow had, not least due to the return to shorter; patiently ridden, smooth headway before 2 out, shaken up home turn, effort last, came between rivals to lead near finish without ever coming in for more than a hands-and-heels ride, cool work by his rider; still young, he should remain a fixture in the leading 2m handicaps.

ran at least as well in defeat as when winning the time before following an 8 lb rise, the tactical change obviously not doing too much harm, though the way he was coming back for more suggested he'd have benefited from having even more use made of him; settled in touch instead of forcing gallop, upsides 2 out, ridden straight, not quicken approaching last, kept on well out wide final 100 yds.

progressed again in going so close from 7 lb higher, yet to let himself down in a handicap, some ability to find what he does considering a free-going nature that saw him go to the front much earlier this time; took strong hold, close up, jumped on fourth, joined briefly 2 out, rallied well, headed only dying strides; sure to continue running well.

continues to shape up well, more than holding his own in a stronger handicap, all after racing closer to the inside than the other principals; in touch on inner, challenged 2 out, every chance still last, no extra only late on; this was only his second handicap start, and he's open to further improvement.

shaped as if as good as ever after 19 months off, apparent lack of sharpness as the race was developing preventing her going closer still; mid-division, lost ground before 2 out, not quicken home turn, rallied well inside final 1f, finished with running left, not having an unduly hard race.

Non Runners: GRAPEVINE (IRE). Hurdles: 7. Race Distance Adjustment: +69 yds

Winning Owner: Niall Farrell & Friends

Time: 4m 11.2s Closing Sectional: (2.85f): 44.30s (98.5%)

Half the field had won their most recent outing but that backdrop shouldn't mask what was an ordinary renewal of the Greatwood, down a little on quality with the top-weights running from a BHA mark below 150, not to mention short on improvers with realistic pretensions of holding their own in open graded company, just a year after Silver Streak and Verdana Blue had finished second and fourth respectively.

HARAMBE back in a bigger field, got back on the up to go one better than when running Getaway Trump closest on his final start in the spring, this suiting him far better than Chepstow had, not least due to the return to shorter; patiently ridden, smooth headway before 2 out, shaken up home turn, effort last, came between rivals to lead near finish without ever coming in for more than a hands-and-heels ride, cool work by his rider; still young, he should remain a fixture in the leading 2m handicaps.
