proved at least as good as ever, producing as good a round of jumping as he ever has (one noted mistake in 3 races here this season, and clearly much better than of old in that department), his turn to boss this time, with no Coneygree in opposition; led, jumped well, went with zest, challenged from tenth, strongly pressed last, driven run-in, gave all; he won't go up much for this and is likely to continue to give a good account.

proved at least as good as ever, aided by a superb ride, though once again he managed to wriggle out of winning, against a game opponent admittedly, consenting to go alongside but no further on the run-in; held up, travelled well, crept closer after eighteenth, every chance last, upsides run-in, outbattled; among the most frustrating horses in training.

proved better than ever, though it was probably as well the runner-up was in the race as it took the spotlight off his own finishing shortcomings, another good ride going less well rewarded than it might; patiently ridden, travelled well, mistake 4 out, headway 2 out, produced to have every chance last, no extra final 50 yds.

was below form, the effort of trying to get past Cogry telling late on, battle perhaps better joined from the off, her rival already in a good rhythm by the time she was asked to press; handy, pressed leader from tenth, ridden after 4 out, weakened 2 out.

wasn't disgraced, running here in preference to a third bid at the London National, a longer trip perhaps more in order; in rear, ridden eighteenth, some headway 3 out, one paced next; he went close on heavy ground in his younger days, but has avoided the mud in recent seasons.

A competitive staying handicap chase featuring essentially pretty exposed types, the form likely to prove solid, the race itself a cracker, with superb rides in different ways on the first 3, the ride on the runner-up as good as you'll see.

COGRY proved at least as good as ever, producing as good a round of jumping as he ever has (one noted mistake in 3 races here this season, and clearly much better than of old in that department), his turn to boss this time, with no Coneygree in opposition; led, jumped well, went with zest, challenged from tenth, strongly pressed last, driven run-in, gave all; he won't go up much for this and is likely to continue to give a good account.
