Useful form from the principals, though as with the earlier handicap the race turned on the tactics employed by Paddy Brennan, a wide route again paying dividends, the winner perhaps the best in the race anyway, though his advantage definitely boosted by that choice.

COOLANLY (IRE) had leading form claims on his fifth to Lalor at Aintree and didn't need to better that to land this, gaining compensation for his mishap last time, seen to maximum advantage due to the tactics employed; taken wide, held up, travelled well, good progress 3 out, led 2 out, ridden run-in, kept on well final 1f; he has an obvious target in the Challow Hurdle, the prospect of a return to softer ground no negative.

PYM (IRE) progressed again, suited by the 5f longer trip, having his chance in the straight but not having followed the wide route of the winner; tracked pace, ridden home turn, challenged last, not quicken inside final 1f; may have more to offer and wouldn't be a forlorn hope to turn the tables on the winner another time.

PERCY VEER was up against it under a penalty and ran well, though he unfortunately finished lame; held up, travelled well, headway before 3 out, every chance next, not quicken.

DARLAC (FR) was, on the face of it, found out in better company, though he was the least experienced of the field bar the outsider and also went round the inside, which may well not have been an advantage; led main group as pair raced clear early, pushed along after seventh, not quicken 2 out, edged left, stayed on run-in; remains open to improvement.

KAPGARRY (FR) ran his best race over hurdles, his form coming into the race seemingly well behind a few of the others; patiently ridden, not fluent 3 out, effort after, not quicken home turn; may do better still.

NESTOR PARK (FR) with some useful form in bumpers, shaped with plenty of encouragement on hurdling debut after 8 months off, just too keen for his own good, hopefully this likely to have taken the freshness out of him; pressed leader, not settle fully, led fifth, headed 2 out, not fluent last, no extra; sure to improve.

CAPTAIN PEACOCK was essentially found out in better company; held up, pushed along after seventh, not quicken after 2 out.

TRICKS AND TRAILS (IRE) (€20,000 3-y-o: by Flemensfirth: brother to bumper winner/fairly useful hurdler A Hardy Nailer (2½m winner), and half-brother to useful chaser Sraid Padraig (17f-2½m winner, by Revoque), stayed 3m: dam lightly raced in bumpers/over hurdles) placed in Irish points early in the year, showed little on hurdling debut; mistake 2 out, always behind.

DOUBLE TREASURE reportedly had a breathing problem; led until fifth, stopped quickly, pulled up next.
