had overcome inexperience to win on his only start in bumpers, and did the same in making a taking hurdling debut after 6 months off, still seemingly very raw; held up, took keen hold, not fluent third, headway after 2 out, ran green, stayed on to lead final 100 yds, hung right, drew clear, had plenty in hand; a smart prospect, well up to winning more races.

on first outing since leaving Philip Hobbs after 6 months off, produced his most convincing display over hurdles yet, a switch to pacemaking making the most of his exuberance, just outpointed by a really promising rival, a similar event or a novice surely his for the taking; led, went with zest, kicked on 2 out, ridden home turn, headed and hampered final 100 yds, kept on; he's open to improvement now he's on the right track.

so impressive in winning his only start in bumpers, couldn't justify strong support on hurdling debut, but shaped encouragingly after 6 months off, probably wanting more of a test of stamina; held up, headway when not fluent 2 out, ridden after, ran green, kept on run-in; will stay beyond 2m; sure to improve, perhaps significantly so.

having a third quick run, would have been beaten a fair way had he completed, the company a bit hot, but he has yet to show all he has to offer as a hurdler, whether he gets a mark after this remaining to be seen; held up, pushed along briefly fourth, still plenty to do 3 out, fell last, never on terms but not given at all a hard time; capable of better.

A really interesting race of its type and form to view very positively, the time looking good in relation to the closing handicap, the winner doing a lot wrong but clearly a smart novice in the making, quite a few of the others showing enough to think they will win races this winter.

THOMAS DARBY (IRE) had overcome inexperience to win on his only start in bumpers, and did the same in making a taking hurdling debut after 6 months off, still seemingly very raw; held up, took keen hold, not fluent third, headway after 2 out, ran green, stayed on to lead final 100 yds, hung right, drew clear, had plenty in hand; a smart prospect, well up to winning more races.

ELIXIR DE NUTZ (FR) on first outing since leaving Philip Hobbs after 6 months off, produced his most convincing display over hurdles yet, a switch to pacemaking making the most of his exuberance, just outpointed by a really promising rival, a similar event or a novice surely his for the taking; led, went with zest, kicked on 2 out, ridden home turn, headed and hampered final 100 yds, kept on; he's open to improvement now he's on the right track.

BANG ON FRANKIE (IRE) again showed plenty on first outing since leaving Colin Tizzard after 11 months off, well up to winning a race of this nature; close up, travelled well, ridden before 2 out, every chance when bumped after last, kept on; may do better still.

SEBASTOPOL (IRE) so impressive in winning his only start in bumpers, couldn't justify strong support on hurdling debut, but shaped encouragingly after 6 months off, probably wanting more of a test of stamina; held up, headway when not fluent 2 out, ridden after, ran green, kept on run-in; will stay beyond 2m; sure to improve, perhaps significantly so.

SOME DAY SOON (IRE) built on debut promise, that form looking stronger than it did at the time (third has won since), his jumping just letting him down late on; in touch, effort when mistake 2 out, not quicken, not fluent last; may do better still.

SEVEN DE BAUNE (FR) after 5 months off, produced a promising first effort over hurdles, in need of experience and spared a hard race; held up, headway before fifth, pushed along after 3 out, weakened approaching last, not persevered with once held; will stay beyond 2m.

AMOOLA GOLD (GER) back down in trip, again failed to progress from debut, though he wasn't given a hard race once beaten and may well be more competitive in handicaps; prominent, ridden after 2 out, weakened soon after, not persevered with once held.

WORLD WAR (IRE) fairly useful on the Flat (stays 13f), was well held on hurdling debut/first outing since leaving Archie Watson after 4 months off, though there was a modicum of promise in his effort; chased leaders, mistake fifth, lost place soon after.

FALCON SUN (FR) who'd had a breathing operation, was raced only on soft ground previously, and looked ill at ease on this surface, running poorly after 7 months off; held up, off the bridle before most, driven before fourth, left behind before 3 out.

SECRET MELODY was well held after 5 months off, on first outing since leaving Tim Easterby for £2,800, scant encouragement in his effort; in touch, soon off bridle, left behind fifth.

TAMAYEF (IRE) showed nothing after 10 months off; soon behind, lost touch fifth.

LUNAR JET fairly useful on the Flat (stays 10.5f), made an inauspicious start over hurdles; held up, unseated rider first.

PRIMAL FOCUS (IRE) having a third quick run, would have been beaten a fair way had he completed, the company a bit hot, but he has yet to show all he has to offer as a hurdler, whether he gets a mark after this remaining to be seen; held up, pushed along briefly fourth, still plenty to do 3 out, fell last, never on terms but not given at all a hard time; capable of better.
