coped much better with the demands of this type of race than he had in the BetVictor Gold Cup and showed improvement as a result; in touch, travelled well, headway 4 out, led soon after last, all out to hold on; he's a smart novice and has the option of returning to graded novices, though without the benefit of the weight-for-age scale in the new year.

ran well and might even have won had his jumping not come up a little short when the pressure was on, doing well to rally as he did after 2 out; held up, headway thirteenth, not fluent after, not quicken 2 out, kept on well run-in; will be no surprise, given the yard, to see him effective at 3m.

ran yet another good race at this track, right up to his best, off a mark fully 22 lb higher than when successful in this race last season, his good jumping and willingness both in evidence again; led, headed approaching 2 out, rallied well run-in.

All 16 ran. Fences: 17. Race Distance Adjustment: +77 yds

Winning Owner: Mr P J Vogt & Mr Ian Fogg

Time: 5m 17.8s Closing Sectional: (3.84f): 58.90s (98.2%)

Overrounds: Industry SP 124%, Betfair SP 100.8%

A highly competitive renewal of this valuable handicap, a good pace meaning stamina and jumping were fully tested, even though half a dozen still had a chance late on and those in the frame were well grouped at the line, 3 of the first 5 having been involved in the latter stages of the BetVictor Gold Cup last month, the form having a really solid look to it and the principals likely to continue to give a good account.

FRODON (FR) coped much better with the demands of this type of race than he had in the BetVictor Gold Cup and showed improvement as a result; in touch, travelled well, headway 4 out, led soon after last, all out to hold on; he's a smart novice and has the option of returning to graded novices, though without the benefit of the weight-for-age scale in the new year.

ASO (FR) ran well and might even have won had his jumping not come up a little short when the pressure was on, doing well to rally as he did after 2 out; held up, headway thirteenth, not fluent after, not quicken 2 out, kept on well run-in; will be no surprise, given the yard, to see him effective at 3m.

VILLAGE VIC (IRE) ran yet another good race at this track, right up to his best, off a mark fully 22 lb higher than when successful in this race last season, his good jumping and willingness both in evidence again; led, headed approaching 2 out, rallied well run-in.

QUITE BY CHANCE back up in trip, saw things out really well and proved better than ever; in touch, hampered twelfth, not quicken 3 out, kept on well from last.

KYLEMORE LOUGH ran well, doing plenty and suggesting he's on a good mark, late mistakes and the stiff finish both just finding him out; chased leader, bad mistake 3 out, led before next, mistake last, headed soon after; remains of interest.

BOUVREUIL (FR) ran creditably, as he had here last time, though his finishing effort was again found wanting; handy, every chance after 3 out, ridden straight, no extra last, looked awkward.

BUYWISE (IRE) a standing dish in these races, was below form in a first-time visor, all but unseating rider with a circuit to go not helping; held up, bad mistake sixth, shaken up twelfth, labouring 4 out.

THOMAS BROWN gambled on, ran poorly, with his attitude letting him down, not the first time he's spat the dummy out when more patiently ridden than usual; never travelling well, always behind.

SOLAR IMPULSE (FR) was well held, yet to show anything for his new yard, though a tumble in the weights is on the cards; raced off the pace, not knocked about and never on terms.

FULL SHIFT (FR) was well held in first-time cheekpieces; held up, ridden eleventh, made no impression.

ROMAN FLIGHT (IRE) ran no sort of race, this grade surely beyond him; always behind.

ALOOMOMO (FR) back over fences, failed to complete, no threat when he departed; waited with, ridden thirteenth, held when fell 3 out.

KING'S ODYSSEY (IRE) departed a long way out, but he was shaping very nicely and is surely on a good mark still; tracked pace, travelled well, still going strongly when fell twelfth; one to be interested in.

MODULE (FR) ran no better than on return, likely to have been well held even had a mistake not ended his race; handy, lost place when bad mistake thirteenth, pulled up.

SIZING CODELCO (IRE) back up in trip, ran poorly, his attitude the main problem, an underachiever for his previous yard and with questions to answer for his new one; held up, early reminders, pulled up ninth, took little interest.

TURBAN (FR) back over fences, showed nothing again, of little interest at present; soon behind, mistakes eighth, eleventh, pulled up 2 out.
